Oh boy, has it been a minute but the Planes on the Prairie boys are BACK with a new episode in the series! This week, Sam & Max delve into the life of Minnesota native & longtime Melrose, MN, resident Capt. Francis J. Lent.

During WWII, Lent served with the 431st FS, 475th FG, flying the P-38 Lightning against the Japanese in the Pacific. Lent scored an impressive 11 aerial victories before his untimely death in early December 1944.

Sam & Max are happy to bring you all another episode of the podcast, and thank you all for your patience this past summer as life got in the way of making new episodes for the both of the guys. You all rock.

Tell us what aircraft pilot you want to see featured in the next episode!

With the Minot AFB open house cancelled today, Max & his girlfriend decided to visit a few “kebab aircraft” on the way home. Max had already visited 2 of these aircraft before (Velva T-33 & Devil’s Lake F-101 Voodoo). However, the 2 Huey’s were new! The first was 67-17500, which was a battle-damaged Vietnam veteran. The other Huey is actually the newest static display aircraft in North Dakota; HH-1H 70-2458 at the Ronald Reagan Minuteman Missile State Historic Site in Cooperstown, ND. The staff there said that they hope to have 2458 fully reassembled and painted by the end of the year. We’ll be watching that project with great interest!

The Planes on the Prairie boys want to give everyone an update on lull on episodes recently. We’ve been busy working on a project outside of the podcast that we think a lot of listeners will enjoy some day, but until it’s further along we can really say much more about that.

Unfortunately, both Sam & Max have been dealing with some personal stuff outside of the podcast, so the attention has been shifted to that for the time being. However, we are planning on recording a new episode sometime soon and getting back into the same Monday schedule. We both appreciate all of your patience with the lack of content recently & thank you for sticking around in the meantime.

The POTP boys return to the Great War this week with the 2nd Minnesota born-World War I ace of the series, Lt. Harold K. Boysen of Lake Benton, MN, who was with No. 66 Squadron, RFC / RAF.

Lt. Boysen was one of the many American born pilots who went to Canada to get into the fight early on during WWI. Boysen was posted to No. 66 Squadron where he scored 5 aerial victories on the lesser known Italian Front during the war. This is a great episode with some really interesting tidbits about a lesser known theater here in the United States, so be sure to give it a listen and, if you enjoyed it, give it a share! It really helps us out. Thanks guys!

The newest installment of the podcast is now available! We apologize that it’s taken a little bit of time, but we think it’s worth it. We’re honored to say that Mike Hennon-Raudenbush joined us on this week’s episode. Mike is the son of Minnesota-native & WWII fighter ace Bill Hennon! Bill served with the Army Air Corps during the early days of the War in the Pacific (in fact, he was in the Philippines when Japan invaded on December 8th) and went on to rack up an impressive record against the Japanese before his untimely death back home.

Please give the episode a listen and share it with your family and friends who are interested in WWII history!
