Four domestic violence charges.
The final outcome was a single anger management course.
I understand that plea agreements are part of our legal system, but it’s hard for me to reconcile this outcome with what I experienced.
These are just some of the injuries I documented.
This experience reaffirmed what I’ve long known: why so many victims struggle to report abuse. When people go through the entire process and still walk away feeling like the consequences didn’t reflect what happened, it’s easy to understand why some lose faith in the justice system.
I don’t know what the perfect answer is. I only know this was mine.
