Quick safety tip for the worse: big thing is continue to breathe without panic as shallow breathing due to stress triggers drowning.

🛟 If YOU are in the water:

✅ 1. Float on your back, feet first (defensive position)
• Keep your head up and feet pointed downstream.
• Slightly bend knees to absorb impact from rocks or debris.
• Use your arms to steer or paddle toward the edge when safe.

✅ 2. Do NOT try to swim directly against the current
• You’ll tire quickly.
• Instead, angle yourself diagonally across the current toward the shore.

✅ 3. Look for calm spots
• Eddies (behind rocks or logs) or slower-flowing edges of the river are safer to swim toward.

✅ 4. If trapped or pinned
• If foot is caught or body is pinned, don’t panic.
• Try to face upstream, get your legs free, and use hands to push off rocks.
• Signal for help if above water.

• Call for help immediately.
