In June of 2020, during the pandemic, I set out on a journey to produce a docuseries telling the grueling, real-life stories of single moms.
My team and I launched a city-wide casting call in search of five single moms ready to reclaim their lives mentally, physically, and financially as participants in the groundbreaking new docuseries.
When I pitched the idea, it was well received. Promises were made to invest, sponsor, and help bring the vision to fruition.
On September 17, 2020, I received a huge blessing! One of WTS' investors agreed to invest 1mm dollars in the project. She signed a subscription agreement and directed the funding to be wired. Yes! We're off and running, so I thought.
Unfortunately, the funding was never received. Yet, we were three months into the project with debt on our books and a Gorilla on my back.
I had two options, give up and file for bankruptcy, or persevere. I chose to persevere.
I took out loans. I had other investors fill in the gap when the well ran dry. This is what running a full-on business looks like. You must navigate the rough waters. Find a way.
Although I wanted to give up I couldn't. I had five single mothers and their children depending on me. I made a promise to tell their stories and gift a home to one of them. I had a crew that needed to be paid, and investors who trusted me to get this across the finish line.
On July 21, 2023, the day my mom passed I signed an agreement to license season 1 of Overcomers to a new network that had launched. Don't ask me how I found the strength to push through that meeting, but I did. What a blessing. Relief. Part 1 of my dream was accomplished.
What I know for sure is that when God gives you an assignment, He will provide. It will come to fruition. It will NOT be easy. It requires unshakable faith. Sleepless nights when all you do is pray.
I also know everyone who says they are for you will not be there when you're in the fire or there's no benefit for them to shine.
It's okay. Forgive them, but don't forget. Hold them accountable. Trust, I have a line of folks holding me accountable.
