Last week, I had a drawing and gave away one free overnight of postpartum support to a local family in here in Austin. I’m so excited to share with you their video! I so much enjoyed my time connecting with them and getting to love on their sweet girl for the night 💗 Some FAQs: ❓ Why is the baby’s eyes covered? Do they sleep in the hat? ✅ Babe wears a hat for privacy reasons, as well as keeping them drowsy during diaper changes and feedings. Infrared and tea lights are great for nighttime with baby. This video would not have been possible without the use of “big” lights. They do not sleep in the hat. ❓ Why does mom choose to pump vs. feed baby at the breast? ✅ Many mamas choose to pump during the night instead of offering the breast for a myriad of reasons. Some of those may be because 1) it can be more time efficient so that she can get to back to bed quicker, 2) it gives her a chance to be her own person as many can become “touched out” during the day, 3) some just choose to exclusively pump! Everyone is different, and all choices are valid and seen.

Not only is warmth great for recovering postpartum bodies, it is an excellent tool for gassy bellies! You can make your own heat pack at home using just three items you probably have laying around ⬇️ Take a spare sock (preferably a long one) and fill it with rice or flaxseed, then tie off the end. Add a few drops of essential oil for a relaxing smell and BAM! You’re done 🧦 🍚 Always check the temperature of the heating pack before placing it on your newborn as their skin is very sensitive. Never place a heating pack directly onto the newborns skin. Try to have 2-4 layers of material between the two. Microwave the pack for 30 seconds, take it out, then check it. If it does not seem hot enough, continue heating the pack in 10-15 second intervals until the temperature is just right for your little one. Goodluck! ❤️💨

Replying to Fatima Malik Refrigerating pump parts between uses can be a big time saver, and many mamas do it—but use caution. Up to 25% of breastfeeding moms can develop thrush, a yeast infection that thrives in moist environments. Thrush appears as white patches in the baby's mouth or on ni***es and can be uncomfortable. Both mom and baby will need antifungal treatment to get rid of it, so weigh the risks and always clean parts thoroughly! 💦 🍼

Replying to Jordan Jones33708 The 4mo sleep regression is a milestone many families are familiar with. It can be brutal— especially when your baby had been giving you good stretches of sleep during the night! 😰 Rest assured, things WILL go back to normal once baby’s body has had time to heal (if they’re sick) and they’ve made the big (circadian rhythm) leap. Some tips and tricks to get though the 4mo sleep regression: ✅ Keep baby’s bedtime routine the exact same. Your baby needs consistency now more than ever. Continue including some variant of a bath/water time, a lotion massage, snuggles, books/story time, and one last BIG feed for the night before putting them down. ✅ Avoid using bright lights around the home (or any room the baby is hanging out in) at least an hour before bed. Instead, opt for ambient lighting like candles, tea lights, and/or red light bulbs! Red does not emit ‘blue light’ which is known to hinder melatonin secretion and disturb our body’s circadian rhythm. ✅ Make sure baby isn’t waking up because they’re cold! Dress baby in the appropriate amount of layers to stay warm during the night. A colder house temp requires thicker layers. Opt for natural fiber PJs (wool or cotton) and a thick sleep sack. Consider running a space heater or stand alone heater in the nursery or sleeping area if your home is drafty or runs cold. ✅ Feed babe as much as they want during the day. You want your baby to consume a majority of their calories during waking hours to limit the number of times they’re waking up during the night to eat. Remember, progression and regression go hand in hand! Your got this!
