45. ❤️
There’s something beautifully full-circle about celebrating this birthday with “Feliz Me Siento,” one of my favorite vieja salsa songs.
The song is a man’s declaration of love and appreciation for a woman who brings peace, comfort, love, and happiness into his life.
But somewhere along the way, I started hearing it differently.
I started hearing myself.
Because at 45, I can look at the life I’ve built and recognize the woman who has been there through every single chapter of it.
Me.
I’ve learned how to give myself peace. How to protect my joy. How to create softness after hard seasons. How to take myself places I dreamed of seeing, give myself beautiful experiences, celebrate myself, provide for myself, and build a life that genuinely feels good to live.
That doesn’t mean I don’t value love from other people. I absolutely do.
It means I no longer need someone else to create within my life the things I’ve learned to give myself.
So when I’m belting out:
“ESTA CANCIÓN ES PARA TI, MI LINDA MUJER!”
“This song is for you, my beautiful woman.”
I mean that s**t.
This song is for HER.
The woman who survived some things.
The woman who healed some things.
The woman who learned some things.
The woman who had to let some things and some people go.
The woman who still laughs loudly, loves deeply, dances freely, dreams bigger, and keeps choosing herself.
At 45, I’m not celebrating perfection.
I’m celebrating becoming.
The woman I was.
The woman I fought to become.
The woman I am today.
And the woman I haven’t even met yet.
Esta canción es para ti, mi linda mujer. ❤️
y soy yo.
