Visiting my father’s grave.
In Jewish life, a cemetery is more than a resting place — it’s where memory becomes mitzvah.

🪨 Stones, not flowers
We place a stone to mark our visit. Flowers fade, but a stone endures — a lasting sign of remembrance.

💧 Washing hands
On the way out, we pour water from a Nagle Vasser cup — three times on each hand. It’s a spiritual reset, a way of separating the holiness of the cemetery from everyday life.

🚫 Not drying
We don’t dry our hands after. Letting the water evaporate is a reminder that memory shouldn’t be “wiped away.”

✨ Why we visit
Especially on the holidays when we say Yizkor, visiting the kever is an act of kavod (honor) for the soul of our loved ones. Yizkor is our prayer of remembrance — asking that their neshamot (souls) be bound up with eternity, while we keep their memory alive here on earth.
