So here w are again, on the eve of Art Basel or Art Week Miami. Art lovers from the entire Planet will be here to view some of the best fine art in the world. They tell me that there will be more art in Miami Beach, Miami between Nov. 7-10 than the entire world combined.

There are more than 26 fairs (thats where I lost count) and I'd say at a minimum 6 fairs contain some of the best and most valuable original works ever created. We are talking hundreds of unique contemporary paintings alone.

I can't wait to to just wander the halls, marvel at master pieces and hope for inspiration, ideas and more insight into what makes these works so damn incredible. What element do they contain, or maybe they just don't and a bit of beauty,a visual recap of the times, artists just doing their best to memorialize some of the sexy women or men they have been with, including self portraits. Maybe they leave us with picturesque riddles that we have to interpret. Picturesque needs to be viewed and balanced with the relationship between beauty and the sublime.

I don't care for conceptual art, don't need to c a Yoko ciopycat in a potato sack or some women dancing o........ you know where I'm going. I was never a fan of that kind of art or mostly any art created in the past 15 years period. What happened? Lets get enlightened and bring colorful aesthetics We have been portraying beauty since cave drawings, landscapes, portraits, to realism, middle age religious works, to Jackson Pollock, Warhol, Dali, Johns, Lichenstein, Chinese, and Japanesejust to name a very few. What kind of art was produce in Japan for the 20 years after Hiroshima, Nagasaki or Jewish works after the Holocaust?

We need more young artists that break and disrupt this art period of Gray that is still - for the most part, with us. We need a new, exciting energy in art and we need it now. Plus the financial rewards could be super great. Also we must get political - I would have never said this if we didn't have this president. He's taking part of the National Parks back. (Where's John Mure when you need him. Where's FDR, Obama, - (I'm not certain he could help) - HELP. If we kill nature, we will kill art.

Do we all get a little stuck in art "oldies" or has art since 9/11 just been gray and bleak, I think so. I know artists like Brainfart or what ever his name is and Bansky have emerged and a few great Cuban and others, but not many and I;m not sure about those. Anyway, can't wait for Basel, Spectrum,
NADA, the new ICA Museum, Design Miami, and a few others (enough to keep me busy for a month) starting tomorrow.

And there's the parties and the access to certain family warehouse collections that contain some of the best art in the world. Are they serving food?

A Musical Ode To DJ Mark Leventhal - Miami Pop

Jerry Powers looks back at his longtime friendship and partnership in this heartfelt ode to DJ Mark Leventhal.

I met DJ Mark Leventhal 20 years ago. He was 30, and we had a great deal in common: We both loved music. We were both Jersey Boys, we were both DJ’s (yeah—I did that too) and we both did the “unthinkable” by moving to South Beach in the early ’90s. Mark curated and created ...

He was a celebrity DJ before the term was even coined. Thanks for all the fantastic tunes over the years! You will be missed! RIP Mark Leventhal!
