Disturbed released "Believe" on September 17, 2002, twenty four years ago today. It entered at number one with 284 thousand copies sold in its first week, the first chart topping record of their career.

The band produced it with Johnny K for Reprise Records, following "The Sickness", which arrived in 2000 through Giant Records and Reprise. It shipped on CD, LP and digital, and carried three singles: "Prayer", "Remember" and "Liberate". Steve "Fuzz" Kmak played bass, his last appearance on a Disturbed album.

Reprise kept the band through "Ten Thousand Fists" in 2005, "Indestructible" in 2008 and "Asylum" in 2010. Kmak was gone by the next album. The argument over whether "The Sickness" or "Believe" is the record that defines them has never been settled.

"Believe" turns 24 today. Disturbed released their second album on 17 September 2002 through Reprise Records, and it became their first record to reach number one.

Johnny K produced it with the band, following "The Sickness", which arrived in 2000 on Giant Records and Reprise. It shipped on CD and vinyl, built around religious and spiritual themes, with "Prayer", "Remember" and "Liberate" as singles. It was the last Disturbed album made with Steve "Fuzz" Kmak on bass.

Kmak was gone before "Ten Thousand Fists" landed in 2005, and the band stayed on Reprise for every album after that. Twenty four years on, the argument over whether "The Sickness" or "Believe" is the record that defines Disturbed has never been settled.

Slipknot released "Arsenal" and its video on September 9, and the press photo issued with it showed eight masked members. The band had fielded nine since 1998.

The lineup on the 1999 self titled album ran through "All Hope Is Gone" until Paul Gray died in 2010 at 38. Alessandro Venturella took the bass for ".5: The Gray Chapter" in 2014, Michael Pfaff came in when Chris Fehn left in 2019, and Craig Jones, Jay Weinberg and Sid Wilson have all departed since 2023, with Eloy Casagrande now on drums.

No tour dates are on the books. Root said this summer that the group has worked on around 50 arrangements with producer Matt Wallace. Whether anyone replaces Wilson is unconfirmed. Nobody has said who did the scratching on "Arsenal".

Coal Chamber released "Chamber Music" on 7 September 1999, twenty seven years ago today. It was their second album for Roadrunner Records, and the single was a cover of "Shock the Monkey" cut with Ozzy Osbourne.

Josh Abraham produced, with sessions split between Long View Farms and Westlake. The album shipped on CD, two years after the self titled debut of 1997, also on Roadrunner, the label that carried much of the scene through that year.

"Dark Days" followed in 2002 on Roadrunner, and "Rivals" came in 2015 on Na**lm Records. "Chamber Music" now lives on in digital form as well as the original CD. The argument over which of the first two records defines Coal Chamber has never closed.

Silvertomb has put out the music video for "Graves In The Sky". The band is fronted by Kenny Hickey on vocals and guitar, with Johnny Kelly on drums, both of them formerly of Type O Negative and Danzig.

The lineup is completed by Joe James on guitar, previously of Agnostic Front, Hank Hell on bass, also of Sheer Terror, and Aaron Joos on guitar, keyboards and vocals. Hickey and Kelly played together in Type O Negative and later in Danzig, and the two carried that working partnership into this band, where the guitar work is split three ways.

The video is available now and no further release details have been confirmed. Which credit gets named first, Type O Negative or Agnostic Front, depends on who is doing the introducing.

Silvertomb has released a music video for "Graves In The Sky", the first piece taken from the album the band has set for November.

The lineup comes out of circuits the scene already knew: Kenny Hickey on vocals and guitar and Johnny Kelly on drums, both formerly of Type O Negative and Danzig, with Joe James on guitar, previously of Agnostic Front, Hank Hell of Sheer Terror on bass, and Aaron Joos on guitar, keyboards and vocals.

The album arrives in November. No exact day has been given, and the video is the only part of it in public so far. Nothing has been stated about producer or studio.

Brad Wilk, drummer of Audioslave, turns 58 today. Born on 5 September 1968, he played on the three studio albums the band released between 2002 and 2006.

The self titled debut arrived in November 2002 on Epic and Interscope, produced by Rick Rubin, with Chris Cornell on vocals next to Tom Morello and Tim Commerford. "Cochise" led it, with a video directed by Mark Romanek. Wilk had spent the previous decade in Rage Against the Machine, which released "Renegades" in 2000.

Audioslave stopped working together in 2007, after "Revelations". Wilk returned to Rage Against the Machine for the reunion dates that reached arenas in 2022. The argument over which Audioslave record holds up best has never closed.

Bass is the position he is credited with in the band, the part of the arrangement that sits under the guitars and moves with the drums. It is the same instrument and the same role that appear next to his name in the current lineup, and neither the band nor Alderete has issued a public message tied to the date.

Brad Wilk turns 58 today. Born on September 5, 1968, the American drummer was a founding member of Rage Against the Machine when the band came together in 1991.

Since that year he has been the drummer in Rage Against the Machine, credited as a founding member rather than a later hire. He also held the drum seat in Audioslave and in Prophets of Rage, two projects built around musicians who arrived from other bands, with Wilk carrying the same job in all three.

Nothing has been announced around the date, and no new recording with Wilk on drums has been confirmed. Which of the three bands his playing is measured by is an argument the scene has never closed.

Limp Bizkit released "My Generation" on September 5, 2000. The single turns 26 today.

It comes from "Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water", produced by Terry Date and put out through Flip and Elektra. In September 2000 a single still meant a physical release, radio adds and video rotation, and the album followed later that year with the same label pairing on the sleeve.

Twenty six years on, the track is one of several from that album that the band built its 2000 campaign around, and no anniversary plans have been announced. Which single from that record defines it has never been settled among the people who bought it.
