I walked into McDonald’s after pulling a $10,000 day feeling pretty good about myself and the first thing I see is this teenager behind the counter looking like his entire life just fell apart. Slumped shoulders, dead eyes, barely moving while my fries and burger are sitting right there on the counter. I’m thinking… this is the guy handling my food? If you’re gonna work somewhere, at least pretend you want to be there.
What really irritated me was the attitude. No greeting, no energy, nothing. Just standing there staring into space like I personally ruined his day by ordering a meal. When I was his age I would’ve been hustling, smiling, doing whatever it took to move up instead of looking like I’m being forced into hard labor for minimum wage.
So I asked for the manager and told them straight up that if this kid can’t even fake a decent attitude while serving people’s food, maybe he shouldn’t be working the front at all. The manager nodded and said they’d “talk to him,” and the kid just stood there looking even more miserable while I grabbed my bag and left. Honestly I don’t care if people think that’s harsh. If you’re going to serve me food, the least you can do is act like you want to be there.
