This summer, I'm getting fired from the most important job I've ever had.😢
My son Dylan is leaving for college.
No warning. No negotiation. No extension.
Just like that, a role I've held for nearly two decades is ending.
And here's what surprised me:
Empty nest doesn't feel like a milestone.
It feels like an identity crisis. 🤷♀️
When you've spent years organizing your life around a role — mother, leader, caregiver, executive — you don't just lose responsibilities when that chapter ends.
You lose certainty.
You lose routine.
You lose the version of yourself you've known for years.
I've been fired before. I've been blindsided by change. ☝️
I've had moments staring at the ceiling asking: "Who am I now?"
And what I've learned is this:
The hardest part of reinvention isn't building the next chapter.
It's letting go of the one that previously gave you meaning. 💯
Every breakthrough I've ever experienced started the same way:
A chapter ended before I felt ready.
And every single time, the ending wasn't the problem.
My resistance to becoming someone new was. 🔥
So if you're standing in a transition right now — sending a kid to college, leaving a job, ending a relationship, starting a company, making the leap
You are not losing yourself.
You're being invited to meet the next version of yourself.
And from experience... Version 2.0 is always more powerful than the last one.💪
