The Next Chapter

When I was traveling through Brazil earlier this year, a feeling came over me.

The best way I can describe it is a ā€˜calling’ - I felt compelled to go through with this new direction.

As time went on and I contemplated the end of my travel content, I initially felt a little sad. On deeper reflection, I realized it wasn’t about the content itself, but the impact it had made.

It felt good to inspire discussion, consideration, and exploration through my work. I then understood I wasn’t poised to miss any of that as I moved into this different type of content - in fact, I was entering a world of far greater impact.

Travel is something I love, something I’ll pursue and cherish for the rest of my life - but it’s the freedom and flexibility to travel, not it’s interconnectedness with my work, that I covet above all.

That being said, I will do everything I can to continue to host group trips - my first one to Kenya informed me of how much I enjoy them.

My new focus comes with the feelings of anything novel - fear, uncertainty, doubt, worry… but as time goes on, and I continue to encounter these feelings, their potency weakens.

They never go away, I just get better and better at processing them.

There’s too much opportunity and knowledge in this world for the majority of people to hate their job and the life it creates. I’ll use all I’ve learned and experienced over many years to help people chase their dreams.

It begins.

There’s a shift

When you’re a kid (at least one with healthy adults around you), your dreams are encouraged

But when you get old enough to be able to pursue them, people tell you they’re naive and frivolous

For most people, college years were the last ā€œgood timesā€

Not because you had a professional purpose necessarily, but because you were free

Free to be you

Whether you have your own business or work a job, its still possible to be free today

Free from the profession you don’t enjoy

Follow to make it HAPPEN

Go alone

It never ceases to amaze me how amazed people are at me having taken all these trips alone.

Your life is challenging enough as it is - leaving it in someone’s else’s hands… not good.

Doesn’t mean I don’t cherish time with loved ones, just means I won’t wait.

Because the wait never ends, but life does.

ā€œYou gotta jumpā€

Search that up on YouTube with Steve Harvey’s name, one of the most life changing videos I’ve ever watched.

I often think about how many people you see who have made it, talk about what they went through in the past.

Fair play - that’s where we all want to be, on the other side.

But I find it more interesting to hear from people in the middle - the lonely, quiet middle.

The least cool part of chasing your dreams, but the most important one.

Because if you can’t endure it, you’ll never fly.

Perspective

One of the most powerful things you can do is enhance it.

Travel somewhere out of your comfort zone - it should make a lasting impact.

###

A consensus intimidating age for anyone younger.

Your twenties more or less feel like an extension of your teens, making your thirties feel like a new era.

How its framed is everything.

What isn’t helpful (to me, and I’d argue most people) is stuff like:

Be kind to yourself, don’t let society set your standards, you’ve got plenty of time…

There’s elements of truth in all of those, but there’s a better way:

Have a full perspective (not just the negative emotional one)

Understand that people arrive to their goals at different times

Don’t let the number create anxiety, but keep a sense of urgency

The most productive / positive thing is to DO & BE - take action, live life, pursue the mission.

Things will fall into place.

If my twenties were any indication of what’s to come, my thirties are going to be unfathomable.

Amritsar

For a good location, clean room, and friendly staff - check out when you’re in Amritsar (gifted)

Truly - my time at the Golden Temple was one of the best parts of my 5 weeks in India.

Despite being an outsider, I felt totally welcomed by all the worshippers there. The museum they have that details of the history of the Sikh people is fascinating, filled with unreal paintings.

Ever since I randomly watched the movie ā€˜Sadar Udham’ years ago, that details the massacre in Amritsar over one hundred years ago - I’ve always wanted to visit.

But the Golden Temple blew me away - the beauty of its construction and the energy of the site were well worth the time it took to get there.

Amritsar, and broader Punjab, are a fascinating place in India - definitely recommend spending as much time there as you can.

Part IV

While regret seems like a normal way to think about the past, I think its only applicable in an incredibly narrow set of circumstances.

By and large, we should never regret what we’ve done - it was the best we could do with what we knew, and it made us into what we are today.

It’s the butterfly effect - one tiny change could’ve totally altered our life, in ways we wouldn’t wish.

That being said…

In another life, if I had more wisdom, I’d do things different 18.

This series actually got me thinking more about it more, and by the end - I decided I wouldn’t have even done what I said!

Nonetheless, it’s a good guide for most young people.

If these videos help even one person - they’re worth it.
