One of those weird parts few have ever seen. I’ve mentioned these before, they are exhaust manifolds from 428 2V industrial motors. These motors are FEs basically but mounted in FT type situations like propane generators and such. The pair of exhaust manifolds I have are standard FT manifolds but Ford mounted them on C8AE-H heads so they welded up the center heat crossover port. I had always planned to build an early hot rod and use them but never have. Just happened across them looking for something else so snapped a quick pic for those that have never seen one…

“What is that blue crap?” turned into “why does this aluminum housing look like it got struck by lightning?” 😭

Pulled this apart expecting normal gasket material or maybe some old sealant… and instead there’s **blue RTV smeared everywhere** like somebody tried to fix a mechanical problem with bathroom caulk and confidence. But the blue goop isn’t even the scary part — the casting is cracked right through the bolt hole and across the sealing surface like it’s been quietly planning its retirement for years.

Whoever was in here before looked at this and said, “Yeah, just slap some blue stuff on it, torque it down, and let the next guy discover the crime scene.”

Now I’m staring at it wondering if the RTV was supposed to seal a leak, hide the crack, or emotionally support the engine until payday.

Be honest… is this just ugly old sealant, or did somebody absolutely send this thing back together knowing it was already cooked? 💀🔧 😭⚙️🛠️

I have swapped a 1998 vortec 350 into my 81 c10. I put a carb intake and a quadrajet on it. It will run and drive but sputters and cuts out mainly going up hill and especially when shifting into 3rd gear (th350 transmission). I am trying to figure out what is going on with it. This is cylinder 1 plug. Does it look okay to y'all? Any ideas on what I may have going wrong, and what to do? I feel like the TV cable is adjusted fine, and i can't see any vacuum leaks. I am thinking it may be a timing issue or something going on the distributor or wires or something. I always work on my own stuff and am always learning, but i am not what I would call a mechanic. So, I need advice from people more knowledgeable. Thanks y'all

What in the God cluster f**k bu****it is this?
My customer said hey it’s got an internal filter and an external spin on filter.
So I get this thing open and I see that there is two different types of filters in the bottom of the transmission and neither one of them is changeable unless you drop the transmission oil pan.
Who are the f**king morons that designed this bu****it?
If you’re going to have a spin on filter, put that son of a bitch on the outside of the transmission in a line somewhere so that you can change that filter at frequent intervals!
Engineers never cease to amaze me!

You other mechanics know exactly what I’m talking about.

Master L**e Tech here and I’m gonna say what nobody else in this shop has the courage to admit. There is absolutely ZERO reason to own 6 point sockets. None. Not one. A 12 point does everything a 6 point does AND more, so if you’re buying both sets you are literally just throwing money away because the tool truck guy told you to. A 12 point fits 6 point bolts just fine if you actually know how to hold a ratchet straight and don’t round everything off like a rookie.

Every time I see a box full of 6 point sockets I already know that guy spends more time reading torque specs than actually turning wrenches. Real mechanics grab the 12 point, zip the bolt out, and move on with the job instead of standing there debating contact surface geometry like they’re in engineering school. If your bolt heads keep stripping that’s not the socket’s fault that’s operator error.

Honestly if you think you need both 6 and 12 point sets you should just hand your tools over to the guys who actually work for a living and go back to pencil whipping repair orders, because the only thing you’re qualified to do is take instructions from us real mechanics while we finish the job you overcomplicated.
