Advice on sealing roof gaps + fitting Kingspan/Rockwool (garage conversion)
I’m converting a detached single-skin garage into a home office/cinema.

New EPDM roof on OSB, but there are daylight gaps where the roof deck meets the walls. Planning a hot roof with 80 mm Kingspan PIR between rafters, taped as VCL, ply finish inside.

Floor will be levelled with steel pedestals + timber, PIR between, ply on top. DPM over my tanking.

Walls: Rockwool in studs, with PIR offcuts in awkward spots.

Questions:

1. Best way to seal the roof-to-wall gaps before fitting PIR, timber infill, board, foam + sealant?

2. Is my approach for roof, floor, and walls (DPM, insulation, VCL, ply) basically sound, or am I missing anything obvious?

Looking for general advice from anyone who’s done similar.

Need to build against this exterior wall, how to deal with the roof?
I need to build an outdoor bathroom that will be against this building, which is a greenhouse. The slope of the roof brings the edge to about 6ft off the ground. I plan to elevate the floor of the bathroom on concrete blocks to keep it off the ground, which reduces available height even more.
I was thinking to cut the corrugated panel’s back, and cut one or more rafters out, that way I can have the bathroom roof above the existing greenhouse roof. The water on the greenhouse roof will then flow right into the back wall of the bathroom, how do I deal with that?

What is the best way to build a roof around this tree?
Hello, this is for my dad’s out door kitchen. He would like some rain to trickle down the tree but doesn’t want this big opening. His idea is to use a rubber tarp to wrap around the tree like a cone. I think we should use another peace of the roofing and put metal cones around each branch.

How hard is it really to shingle my roof
I just finished fixing my swamp cooler and while I’m up here I’m planning on resealing the roof with just paint on sealant and then I’m possibly thinking about adding shingles. The roof feels like it’s made out of aluminum or a similar thin metal. I’m curious how hard it may be to add shingles and if it’s just shingles or if I need tarp and tape and a bunch of other materials as well

Would it be dumb to attach a sun sail to my roof deck?
I bought a SunSail (Belavi) from Aldi recently in hopes to cool down our roof deck. However, I am a bit stuck on how I am going to install this bad boy. Was wondering if it’s worth going through the trouble to somehow set this up or if I should just ditch this option and go for a standard umbrella?

Ideally, I would like for it to hang over the outdoor furniture. The shade is a triangular shape with a metal loop on each of the 3 ends. It came with a rope, extension spring (x3), and screw eye hooks (x3). And from what I’ve measured there will be extra slack to hang over point 1. but enough to keep it taunt at points 2 & 3. How the heck would I be able to mount this thing on vinyl paneling? Would I be able to use the already existing pole?

Concerned about the potential damage of strong winds. If anyone has any insight or ideas, that would be greatly appreciated. TY

The rug is horrendous in a bathroom of course. My dad thinks the brown stuff is the former wax ring but that doesn’t make sense to me

Contractor unhappy with my work.

So I do new build rough in and finish plumbing for residential mostly. I’ll be testing in to get my license this year as my partner is retiring but we do so much more as a company like full on whole home renovations so I’m not constantly plumbing. Anyways, contractor was supposed to supply hot water heater but didn’t til after I roughed in all the supply and he originally didn’t want to do a recirc system so instead I ran individual lines to the master, laundry and 1/2 bath that is directly above this water heater. The runs are like 20’ or less ensuring hot water quickly. He then buys hot water heater with recirc so I ran a return line from the upstairs bath and would’ve prolly just did a single 3/4” line throughout but that is no longer an option.

So at this point I’m just having fun making a nice custom manifold bc this is where we’re at and he criticizes everything about it. How it’s completely unnecessary and I shouldn’t have done any of that and how if he hires me again he doesn’t want any of that. It’s a waste of time and materials and then he says how crazy my stack is and how it should’ve been done different. How I took up too much room and now the electricians don’t have room for a panel. Mind you there are like 3 other walls that are better options in this same room.

In my opinion, if there’s a problem with the water system, this manifold allows you to isolate the problem and gives you time to fix it without shutting down the whole system. He also criticized me for stubbing out in copper.

His last plumber stubbed out in pex and ran the supply and drains up through the floor instead of the wall.

I’m definitely not the best plumber but I did most this job on my own as my partner (master plumber) was out of town.

Any constructive criticism from some pros would be helpful. Always trying to improve.

Btw, we passed our inspections.

Help!What's in my toilet?
This morning I used the toilet, flushed and then took a shower. When I got out I noticed something in the bottom of the toilet. What is this? It's very thin and brittle and crumbles when touched. I was able to get most of it out but now I'm afraid to flush.
