Took my car in for ‘a few issues’…
Mechanic handed me back a $7,172 invoice and I immediately entered the five stages of financial grief 😭🚗💸
Because LOOK at these numbers:
Rear brake pads — $198
Premium rotors — $507
Brake caliper — $667
Control arm replacement — $1,122
Okay… expensive, but still within reality.
Then I saw:
‘Suspension & Alignment Labor — $3,420’
THREE THOUSAND DOLLARS…
FOR LABOR. 💀
At that point I stopped reading like a customer and started reading like a courtroom investigator.
Because what exactly happened during this repair??
Did the mechanic rebuild the suspension using handcrafted tools forged in the mountains?
And somehow after shop supplies and taxes…
the total lands at:
$7,172.52
Which is the kind of number that makes you sit in your car afterward staring silently at the steering wheel 😮💨
And the wild part is mechanics always explain it so casually too.
“Oh yeah, suspension work adds up.”
Sir… the invoice looks like I financed a second vehicle.
Now I genuinely need mechanics and car people to tell me honestly:
Does this pricing actually make sense?
Are these normal repair costs nowadays?
Or did my car accidentally receive the platinum luxury service package nobody warned me about?
Because at this point I can’t tell if I repaired my vehicle…
or personally contributed to the shop owner’s retirement plan.
