Nobody actually knows why Stonehenge was built. 🌀
Not archaeologists, not historians — after 100+ years of excavation, its true purpose is still debated. Burial ground? Solar calendar? Healing site? What we do know: it took 1,500 years to build, and the stones align perfectly with the sun on the solstices. This is what it may have looked like when complete. 🇬🇧

This entire city was invisible to the world for over 400 years. 🏔️
Built by the Inca in the 1400s, Machu Picchu was abandoned during the Spanish conquest and swallowed by jungle for centuries. When American explorer Hiram Bingham "discovered" it in 1911, most of it was buried under vines and trees — even though local families had known about it all along. This is what it looked like before the world ever saw it. 🇵🇪

Napoleon did NOT shoot off the Sphinx's nose. 🏛️
That's one of history's most repeated myths — a 1737 sketch, decades before Napoleon set foot in Egypt, already shows the Sphinx without its nose. Most historians believe it was deliberately chiseled off around 1378 AD. And here's the part almost nobody knows: the Sphinx wasn't always sandy tan — it was painted red, yellow, and blue. This is what it actually looked like. 🇪🇬

The Parthenon was NEVER plain white marble. 🏛️
For centuries we assumed ancient Greek temples were pure white — but scientists found real traces of red, blue, and gold paint on the sculptures. The "white marble" look we love is actually just... the paint wearing off. This is what it actually looked like. 🇬🇷

The Statue of Liberty was NEVER green when it was built. 🗽
When France gifted her to America in 1886, she shone bright copper — like a new penny. It took 20+ years of oxidation for her to turn the iconic green we know today. Congress even tried to repaint her copper again in 1906 — but the public said no. This is what she actually looked like. 🇺🇸
