What better way to start the weekend than meeting up with a bunch of awesome people and doing great s**t together?

The south end of the Bob Sikes Bridge is 113 lbs cleaner thanks to the 16 volunteers that joined me today. Top finds were styrofoam, wrappers, cigarette butts, fishing line. Odd items included part of a cord from an old-school landline phone, and a 45 lb piece of metal piping of some sort.

As always, it was 🔥 🥵 but that didn't stop these kind-hearted, dedicated people from coming together to give back to their community - the place we all love and call home!

31 more lbs of bs picked up from the same stretch of Garcon Point. This time we parked and walked under the bridge and walked all the way around the point to where the tidal creek starts.

Misc broken oyster cage parts
Tons of styrofoam, plastic bottles, and food wrappers.
1 tennis ball
Kids fishing pole
1 big ass mylar balloon

Yesterday was our annual collaborative cleanup with 3rd Coast Divers, Ocean Hour, and Gulf Islands National Seashore at Fort Pickens. The fishing pier was shut down for a few hours so divers could enter the water to remove 387 lbs of mostly fishing equipment with a few glass bottles in the mix. The amount of giant wads of fishing line that had entangled wildlife was heartbreaking. Hundreds of crabs and other critters were freed and put back into the water. Land volunteers picked up 481 lbs total. They stretched from Langdon Beach down to the end of the fort where we were stationed.

It was an amazing morning with some of the best people around, cleaning such a beautiful place and saving a bunch of wildlife too! If you want to volunteer your time with us, please check the Ocean Hour schedule or send me a message!

🥦 Food Friday 🥦

Food is just about my favorite thing in life. I love growing it, cooking it, eating it, 👀 at it. About 10 years ago I stopped eating beef and pork, then a few years later chicken and turkey, went straight vegan for a few years and now more its a more vegetarian but mainly plant based diet.

Last night's dinner was tofu parm. I make a flour/water/oat milk batter that I dip the tofu pieces in first, then it's dipped into a mix of plain panko and herbs and spices. Convection oven on 350 for about 25 minutes. A few minutes before its done add sauce and cheese (vegan mozzarella here). It took me years to perfect cooking tofu. It was bad for years! All the practice has come full circle because this s**t is 🔥🔥🔥 every time.

Another morning, another pile of 💩 picked up on a tiny stretch on Garcon Point again. This time I took a grabber so I could reach a little more and not get bit up by these wild ass beach fire ants 😩.

Finds were an oyster cage, a large plastic jug, tons of styrofoam, plastic bottles, plastic bags, ice cream toy, piece of clothes hanger, bottle caps, straws.

We were thanked by the giant hermit crabs and the variety of shorebirds as they were showing us how awesome they were 🦀🦢. Wildlife is so cool and so precious - it's really a pleasure to clean up these wild areas for them 🥰.

Just a friendly reminder that what goes up always falls down, usually in our natural areas. The paper lanterns, the balloons of all kinds...they just create litter and suffering to wildlife so can we stop buying them?

Took the boards out around Garcon Point and obviously picked up trash. There's so much 😩. It's pretty overgrown where the majority of it washed up to so it's not easily accessible without better footwear and grabbers which we didn't take.

The cool part though? SO many stingrays! The water wasn't more than 2 feet deep and crystal clear. They were everywhere 🥰!
