From board books to big miles… 🏃‍♀️📚

As Director of Education and Community Outreach at Ninewise Publishing, I’m passionate about giving every child the tools to thrive from the very start.

This fall I’m taking that mission to the starting line, running the 2025 Bank of America Chicago Marathon to support Chicago Commons, a nonprofit that empowers families and young children through early education and family-centered programs. 💙

At Ninewise, we create intentional, expert-crafted board books that help babies and toddlers build early communication and literacy skills. Chicago Commons shares that same belief — that every child deserves the best possible start.

As part of this marathon effort, we’ll also be donating our books to their Early Head Start programs so families have access to these resources from the very beginning. ♥️📚

Running my second World Major in Chicago is a full circle moment, honoring the early years of my own family while carrying Ninewise’s mission forward mile by mile so every child can grow, learn, and thrive.

We had such a memorable time at the IBPA Publishing University Awards Dinner—celebrating independent publishing and connecting with fellow changemakers in the field. And we’re beyond honored to share that 𝙄 𝙃𝙚𝙖𝙧 𝙉𝙖𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚 received the IBPA Gold Award for Best Picture Book (0–3 years)! 🏆

A huge congratulations to author Clay Hadden, pediatric speech-language pathologist and illustrator Audrey Schmid for creating this beautifully engaging, developmentally rich book.

The Independent Book Publishers Association (IBPA) champions small presses, indie authors, and mission-driven publishers like us—ensuring that diverse, high-quality voices make it into the hands of readers. We’re packing up something special and feeling extra proud that 𝙄 𝙃𝙚𝙖𝙧 𝙉𝙖𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚 was named a finalist for the 2025 IBPA Benjamin Franklin Award! 📦✨

The Independent Book Publishers Association (IBPA) is the largest publishing trade association in the U.S., championing the work of indie publishers and authors nationwide. 📚

These copies are heading to IBPA Publishing University in Saint Paul, MN, where they’ll be featured in the conference bookstore! 🛍️

The IBPA Publishing University travels to a new city each year, bringing together independent publishers, authors, and industry professionals from across the country to connect, learn, and celebrate the best in Indie publishing. 🌎

Last week, Ninewise had the incredible honor of attending the Wisconsin Family Child Care Association (WFCCA) Conference, held April 11–12 in Green Bay. 🌟📍

The WFCCA brings together family child care providers and early childhood educators from across Wisconsin to learn, grow, and connect as a community. These are the dedicated individuals who open their homes—and their hearts ❤️—to create safe, nurturing spaces where young children can thrive. 👶🏽🏡

To all the amazing family child care providers we met: thank you. 🙏 Your dedication, warmth, and passion for early childhood care make all the difference in the lives of the children and families you serve.

We’re especially grateful to those who chose to bring books 📚 from our collection into your care settings—we’re honored that our stories and tools will be part of the meaningful work you do every day in your homes. 💛

We also loved connecting with inspiring vendors and fellow nonprofits 🤝 who work hard to support families in finding quality care and to uplift providers themselves. It’s through these shared efforts that stronger, more connected communities grow. 🌱

Another highlight of the weekend? Hearing from keynote speaker Chazz Lewis—aka Mr. Chazz —whose powerful message encouraged us all to embrace the joyful, dignity-driven work of shaping young minds and growing into our best selves. 🎤✨ His energy, insight, and commitment to conscious caregiving left us feeling recharged and ready to continue the work. 🔥

The WFCCA Conference is more than just training—it’s a celebration of heart of childcare 🎉 Thank you for welcoming us into your community. We left inspired and grateful. 💫

📚✨ We’re thrilled to have donated 300 copies of 𝘼𝙫𝙖’𝙨 𝙏𝙧𝙞𝙪𝙢𝙥𝙝 to Bernie’s Book Bank! 🎉

Since 2009, Bernie’s has provided over 28 million free books to children in under-resourced communities. The books are distributed to children at qualifying schools, ensuring those who need them most can build their own personal libraries.

𝘼𝙫𝙖’𝙨 𝙏𝙧𝙞𝙪𝙢𝙥𝙝 tells the story of a young artist who overcomes a setback with dignity, perseverance, and hard work—a message we hope will inspire young readers.
