Being a coach’s wife is a lifestyle that’s hard to explain unless you’ve lived it. Everybody sees the games, the travel, the excitement and the opportunities. But there’s another side that doesn’t get talked about nearly enough.
The missed birthdays, holidays and family moments. The unpredictable schedules. The solo parenting. The uncertainty of never knowing when life as you know it might change. You learn to build a life around a schedule you have absolutely no control over. You create routines knowing they could be disrupted tomorrow. You make a home, find your people, build a community only to sometimes have to start all over again.
And somewhere in the middle of supporting everyone else’s dreams, you have to make sure you don’t lose sight of your own.
I love this life and the opportunities it has given our family. But loving something doesn’t mean it isn’t hard. Both things can be true.
To my fellow coaches’ wives, what’s one thing about this lifestyle you wish more people understood?
