-- Follow Up Story --
Do you remember the missing person's case that we covered in October on this little girl?

We have an unfortunate update...

The remains of Melodee Buzzard, who was reported missing in October and was believed at one point to possibly be in Nebraska, have been found in Utah, according to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office in California.

We shared her story here many times, hoping that if she had been in Nebraska, someone might know something. We hoped for a very different outcome.

Melodee’s mother, Ashlee Buzzard, has been arrested and charged with her murder. Our thoughts are with Melodee and her loved ones.

‼️Lancaster County Couple Scammed
(HICKMAN, Neb.) -- A Hickman couple was scammed out of $250,000 over several months after falling victim to a phishing scheme, the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office reports.

Chief Deputy Ben Houchin said the victims, an 84-year-old and an 82-year-old, were first contacted through an email claiming their Amazon account had been compromised. Scammers then told the couple they owed $200,000 and pressured them to begin making payments right away, promising no interest would be added if they complied.

“Unfortunately, they did,” Houchin said.

From August through October, the couple sent money through bitcoin transactions, Western Union wire transfers, and Apple gift cards. Houchin said the victims also allowed the scammers remote access to their personal computer, which contained their bank account information.

The suspects posed as FBI agents and warned the couple not to contact their bank, claiming there was a mole working at the Hickman bank.

By the time the scam ended, the couple had lost a total of $250,000.

“There is absolutely no way we will be able to recover any of the money,” Houchin said.

The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office was not made aware of the incident until Dec. 17.

Nice try but no luck for a Nebraska man who was arrested after Kentucky authorities found fifty five pounds of suspected Methamphetamine disguised as Christmas presents inside a vehicle in Jeffersontown, Kentucky.

Police in Jeffersontown said twenty-three-year-old Jacob Talamantes was arrested during a narcotics investigation on the 22nd.

Investigators contacted and detained Talamantes when he arrived in a vehicle in the area of Bluegrass Parkway and Decimal drive in Jefferson town.

Kentucky authorities said police were alerted by a K-9 to the presence of narcotics inside the vehicle.

Police searched the trunk and uncovered multiple boxes containing a total of fifty five pounds of suspected methamphetamine wrapped in Christmas paper.

"No amount of festive wrapping can disguise the harm these drugs inflict on families and communities.

** Freak Accident Kills Patron
Grand Island Police Division Chief Dean Elliott said it was “100% a freak accident”.

“It appears the deceased opened the door to further reach out the window for payment purposes.” Elliott said. “We’re not sure if the vehicle lurched forward or what happened, but he got pinched between the door frame and the drive thru window counter.”

As always our prayers and condolences are with everyone involved in this tragic incident.
