Louis Tully’s apartment party in Ghostbusters is one of the greatest portrayals ever of a guy trying WAY too hard to host a sophisticated adult gathering while completely unraveling in real time.

“Why don’t you have some of the brie? It’s at room temperature.”

Two minutes later:

“You think it’s too warm in here for the brie?”

Meanwhile nobody’s talking, everyone looks uncomfortable, and Louis is panic-speedwalking around the apartment trying to force interaction:

“Who does your taxes?”

As the vibe completely dies, he desperately tries to save the evening:

“Anybody wanna play Parcheesi? Boggle? Super Mario Brothers?”

And underneath all of it, he’s clearly completely obsessed with Dana in this awkward, overly concerned neighbor way:

“Oh, Dana, it’s you. I turned your TV down because I thought the sound would bother the neighbors.”

He’s constantly worried about tiny things that Dana herself doesn’t even care about. He acts like the self-appointed guardian of apartment etiquette while trying to impress her at the exact same time.

Then when literal supernatural terror appears outside his apartment:

“Okay… who brought the dog?”

Absolute masterpiece of nervous hosting, forced sophistication, socially awkward chaos, and unrequited neighbor-crush energy. Rick Moranis was unreal in this role.
