UP Youth Congress Demands Names of Alleged Drug Traffickers in Government

The Unity Party National Youth Congress (UPNYC) has taken serious note of the grave and alarming allegations made by the Deputy Director General of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA), Mr. Gwee Forkpa, during the Ministry of Information’s August 12, 2025 press briefing, wherein he accused members of all three branches of the Liberian Government of being involved in the illicit drug trafficking.

The UPNYC finds these claims to be of the highest national security concern. If true, this suggests that the fight against drugs and narcotics in Liberia is being actively sabotaged from within the very institutions mandated to protect our people. This is unacceptable, intolerable, and constitutes a betrayal of the Liberian people.

We therefore, in the strongest and most unequivocal terms, call on Mr. Forkpa to immediately and publicly name the individuals, whether in the Executive, Legislative, or Judicial branches, whom he knows to be involved in drug trafficking or obstructing the national fight against narcotics. The Liberian people deserve to know the truth. The youth of this country will not stand by while shadowy figures in high offices destroy our future with drugs and impunity.

Should Mr. Forkpa fail to disclose these names within 72 hours, the Unity Party National Youth Congress will consider his statement as reckless, irresponsible, and a deliberate attempt to mislead the public. In such a case, we will demand his resignation or dismissal for gross dereliction of duty and for undermining public trust in the national security apparatus.

The drug epidemic is ravaging our communities, destroying the minds of our young people, and threatening the very foundation of our nation. Anyone, no matter their position or influence, found aiding, abetting, or profiting from this scourge must face the full weight of the law.
The UPNYC stands ready to mobilize the youth of Liberia in the defense of our country’s future. The time for half-measures is over. The time for truth, justice, and accountability is now.

Signed:

Mot. Klady Paul Charged With Criminal Mischief, Disorderly Conduct by the Liberia National Police.

The Liberia National Police have charged a 67-year-old woman with simple assault, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct following an incident involving a police officer directing traffic.

According to police spokesperson DCP Cecelia G. Clarke, madam Klady A. Paul, a classroom teacher, was arrested and charged for her alleged actions during an August 12 at the intersection of 12th Street in Sinkor.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Cecelia G. Clarke told reporters during a press briefing at LNP headquarters that madam Paul approached Patrolman Koilous N. Larmin in what was described as a “hostile and disruptive manner” while he was on duty regulating traffic.

“Despite the officer’s attempts to maintain order, Mrs. Paul verbally attacked him using profanities and inflammatory language, not only toward Patrolman Larmin but also other officers present,” Clarke said.
“Her behavior quickly escalated into physical aggression.”
Madam Clarke said madam Paul damaged a government-issued police radio during the incident.

She stated that, “Her conduct was reckless, disrespectful, and in direct violation of the laws of the Republic of Liberia.”

Mandan Paul, who is a church mother, was formally charged with simple assault (Chapter 14, Section 14.21[A]), criminal mischief (Chapter 15, Section 15.5), and disorderly conduct (Chapter 17, Section 17.3) and has since been forwarded to court for prosecution.

“The charges reflect the gravity of her actions and the disruption caused to public order and police operations,” Clarke said. “The Liberia National Police will not tolerate any act that undermines the authority of the force.”

She furthered that while the LNP holds its officers accountable when they violate public trust, it will also take strong action to protect them from attacks while performing their duties.

“The uniform represents service, sacrifice and authority,” Clarke said. “Any attempt to undermine it will be met with the full force of the law.”
She urged the public to respect law enforcement personnel and emphasized that peace in the community begins with personal responsibility.
