CDC Statement on the Supreme Court’s Ruling: A Triumph for Democracy, a Warning to Tyranny
The National Executive Committee of the mighty Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) hails the landmark ruling of the Honourable Supreme Court of the Republic of Liberia as a resounding victory for the people, for the Constitution, and for Liberia’s fragile democracy, which continues to come under assault by those driven by greed, ego, and blind political ambition.
This ruling—rendered in response to the Bill of Information filed by the legitimate Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Cllr. J. Fonati Koffa—serves as a deafening rejection of the coordinated, illegal attempt by a desperate majority, aided by state actors, to usurp legislative authority and plunge the nation into constitutional crisis.
From the very beginning, the CDC stood firm and unshaken in its position that the illegal removal of Speaker Koffa was nothing short of a constitutional coup. Today, the highest court in the land has spoken—and its voice is clear: the law is supreme, and no man is above it.
Let this ruling serve as a mortal blow to those who have sought to undermine our democratic order through brute state power and unlawful manipulation. Let it be known that the CDC is no bystander in the face of tyranny. We are the vanguard of the people’s resistance, and we will never retreat in the defence of the Republic.
We commend Speaker Fonati Koffa for his boldness, consistency, and deep loyalty to the rule of law. His unwavering stand is a testament to the spirit of a new Liberia—a Liberia where the people, not political conspirators, determine the direction of the state.
In this historic moment, we must not forget the enduring example of Amb. George Manneh Weah, former President of the Republic and the undisputed paragon of peace, unity, and democracy. Even in the face of betrayal and provocation, President Weah chose country over chaos, stability over strife. His legacy stands in direct contrast to the reckless and divisive governance of President Joseph Nyumah Boakai, who’s so-called “rescue mission” has become nothing but a risky mission—a desperate agenda marked by tribalism, economic mismanagement, and a growing hunger to centralize power at any cost.
We say this clearly and without fear: Mr. Boakai must desist immediately from the ongoing dismantling of Liberia’s democratic gains. His administration’s assault on constitutional order is a dangerous provocation—a recipe for national chaos that could return Liberia to the darkest chapters of its history. The CDC will not sit idly by as our nation teeters on the edge.
We therefore call on Speaker Koffa to lead with revolutionary grace and statesmanship, recognizing that this victory belongs not only to him or the CDC, but to every Liberian who believes in the rule of law. We urge him to break the artificial chains of so-called majority and minority blocs and unite the House around a shared vision of justice, inclusion, and accountability.
As always, the CDC remains the pillar of hope for the Liberian masses. We reaffirm our unwavering commitment to democracy, peace, and justice—but let it be known that we are ever ready to resist tyranny in all its forms. The people’s voice will not be silenced, and our revolution for a better Liberia marches on.
