This week I put together a special homage to the 10 years ago Me.

2008-2014 was the height of the what would become known as the beat scene (the Soundcloud era!), a boom of music that was almost solely born from drafting off of the eternal impact and style of J Dilla. This list has a varietal of sounds from that era including more than a handful from the godfathers, Flying Lotus, Knowledge, Madlib, and Shlohmo.

These songs are all my hand-picked favorites from back in that time. I was surprised to find out how much of the music I tried tracking down from this era only existed as downloadable “unofficial” releases that are no where to be found on DSPs. Thankful to have hard records of so much music that I would never be able to find now, but sad that I can’t share it! Maybe I could do a dj set with it or something.
