Revival is coming back to Minneapolis, with a new location planned in the North Loop.

Jester Concepts is bringing the fried chicken restaurant back after Revival’s previous locations closed last year. The comeback is planned for Borough’s longtime space along Washington Avenue North.

Borough is expected to close later this month, with Revival planned to reopen later this year following a remodel and reconcept of the space.

The move keeps the Washington Avenue dining room within the Jester Concepts portfolio while bringing Revival into one of Minneapolis’ most active restaurant neighborhoods.

There’s more to the story, including Revival’s earlier expansion, its smoked meats chapter, and what Jester is changing inside the space.

[MINNEAPOLIS] You know that vacant corner near Logan and Olson? It could soon look a lot different.

Logan Avenue Flats has received approval for a five-story affordable senior housing project in Harrison.

The project would bring income-restricted apartments for residents 55 and older to two vacant parcels just off Olson Memorial Highway. Plans show a compact building designed for a small corner site near transit, parks, and the surrounding neighborhood grid.

We dug into the renderings, floor plans, approval details, project team, and anticipated timeline so you don’t have to.

One of the things that’s always made Minneapolis’ skyline feel a little different is what you don’t see.

For decades, the city has been pretty selective about allowing building signage high on downtown towers. That’s what makes a recent approval at U.S. Bank Plaza notable.

Two new halo-lit U.S. Bank signs have been approved near the top of the building’s north tower. The signs will face north and east and sit approximately 465 feet above grade, just below the roofline of the 40-story tower.

While this isn’t something we see often in Minneapolis, it isn’t entirely new.

RBC Gateway was approved for signage at approximately 484 feet above grade, while Wells Fargo’s Downtown East towers received approval for signage roughly a decade ago at around 200 feet above grade.

Now, U.S. Bank Plaza joins that group.

The approval comes as U.S. Bank continues renovations to the Plaza and consolidates employees from multiple downtown locations into the complex.

Taken on its own, it’s a relatively small change. In the broader context of downtown Minneapolis, it’s another example of how the city’s approach to skyline signage has gradually evolved over the last decade.

A Northeast favorite is making a long-awaited comeback.

After a fire closed its Central Avenue location last year, Momo Sushi is getting ready to reopen just over a mile away in the former Beast Barbecue space on East Hennepin Avenue.

It keeps Momo close to the neighborhood that never really stopped asking when it would be back, while bringing another restaurant use into a recently emptied space.

More room. A patio. Same Momo menu. Now that’s something to be excited about.

[MINNEAPOLIS] Work is officially underway on a new Community-University Health Care Center building in Phillips.

The University of Minnesota broke ground earlier this month on the new home for CUHCC, a community health center that’s been serving the neighborhood for nearly 60 years.

The new building will be about twice the size of the current clinic and will bring more room for patient care, added services, an on-site pharmacy, and healthcare training.

The current clinic will stay open while construction moves forward.

The Tyler Street project is back, and yeah…the exterior looks pretty different now.

Updated plans for the Passive House apartment building were recently approved, and the latest version trades the lighter palette from earlier plans for darker tones and a revised material mix across the building.

The overall project hasn’t changed much in size or layout, but the updated design gives a noticeably different feel from what was previously shown. In our latest Project Brief, we included images from both versions of the proposal and walked through the changes as the project moves closer to construction.

Swipe to see the updated design followed by the earlier version for comparison.

Banh Mi House is getting ready to open at 1024 Washington Ave S. 🤤

The new concept is taking over the former Fitchn space, which has been on the market for about a year. Signage is up and the interior looks close to finished.

It’s a spot that’s been on people’s radar since Fitchn closed, especially with not many quick, casual food options in this part of Downtown East. Now there’s finally something moving in.

Banh Mi House will focus on Vietnamese street food with some Cambodian influence, and they’ll also offer catering.

An official opening date hasn’t been shared, but it looks like a May opening is likely. We’ll share more details soon.

[MINNEAPOLIS] A pair of homes along Marshall Street NE, just a block down from The 1029 Bar, could soon make way for new housing.

We first reported on this project back in 2023, and now it’s resurfacing.

Plans call for a new apartment building with over 80 units and a range of layouts. The proposal largely sticks to its original vision but comes back more refined, with updated design details, shared outdoor spaces, and a stronger overall layout.

The site also sits across from the Graco campus, which is expected to wind down operations in the coming years. It’s something to keep an eye on as this stretch of Northeast continues to evolve.

This Lake Street corner could be getting a noticeable change.

A new mixed-use building is in the works at 1200–1204 East Lake Street, just a couple blocks from Midtown Exchange. It would replace the existing one-story spot with something much larger, including a café at the corner and a blue patterned facade that stands out in the rendering.

There’s a bit more tied into this one too. The Emiliano Zapata statue on site would need to be relocated, and there’s some behind the scenes coordination that still needs to happen before anything moves forward.
