Catalinbread already nailed the high-gain Marshall-in-a-box thing, but the Clean Little Secret takes that classic low-gain BB-style foundation and tightens it up in all the right ways. everything’s been beefed up, from the tone stack to the output stage, so you get just the right amount of push without losing clarity. the overhauled EQ gives you separate treble and bass controls instead of a one-size-fits-all tone k**b, which is a huge win for dialing things in. they’ve also added a bit more muscle on tap, so unity volume sits higher and feels more usable. it stays super clean and articulate thanks to the op-amp choice, but when you lean into the gain, it opens up into that really satisfying edge-of-breakup zone. otherwise, it’s a killer always-on enhancer that just makes everything feel better under your fingers.

It’ll do the polite, transparent “is it even on?” thing—but it can also clamp down, add sustain for days, and make your playing feel way more expensive than it probably is. You get full control over threshold, ratio, attack, release, blend, and makeup gain, plus a legit VU meter so you can stop pretending your ears are perfectly calibrated. It’s smooth, musical, and doesn’t suck the life out of your tone—basically everything you wish your old compressor did.
