Yes, we honour the sacrifices of our ancestors and national heroes who fought bravely for freedom, but independence is more than just freedom from colonial rule or the chains of slavery…

I believe the true meaning of independence for Jamaica is often misunderstood or cut short.

Our music has come a long way

For most people, music is the heartbeat of their social lives.

A sincere call for our own final appellate court. That’s in order. No more dependency. This is the way forward and we should all get away from colonialistic ways into our own.

Sometimes, when I read certain headlines, I have to pause and ask myself: “Did I see this right?” After a second look, I had to ask myself, ”Did our policymakers truly think this through before making a decision or responding publicly?”

I recently came across this headline:
“The Jamaica Chamber of Commerce and the Jamaica Manufacturers and Exporters Association have joined mounting calls for the Government to explain the removal of a key law enforcement requirement from the top job at the Financial Investigations Division.”

The article further states that “the Office of the Services Commissions (OSC) claims that telling the public why the requirement was removed, and who authorised it, would breach privacy and could trigger a lawsuit.”

My immediate reaction a CHUCKLE: Is the blind leading the blind? Was this consequence not considered beforehand?

How did they expect this to slip by the public without backlash? Surely, if proper foresight had been applied, those responsible would have recognized the risk of public outrage and potential legal challenges. Yet, they moved forward anyway.

This isn’t just a routine internal shuffle — it’s a change to a high-level public post with serious implications for national accountability and law enforcement. Employment decisions for such positions must withstand public scrutiny, precisely because of the sensitive and powerful nature of the role. To now attempt to shield the reasoning behind the change as a private matter only raises further concern.

It leads to the obvious question: Who made this decision, and why?
The public deserves transparency — not just in outcomes, but in the reasoning behind decisions that impact the integrity of our institutions.
We want to know.
We have the right to know.

Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow at the Old Coleys. We will connect through shared growing up and reminisce on what some people call, The Good Old Days. It’s all there in the book; plus more. See you there.
