Police in Bangwe have arrested a 26-year-old man, Chipiliro Kaliwo from Traditional Authority Machinjiri in Blantyre District for being found in possession of a firearm without permission.

Publicist for Bangwe Police Station Sam Kadyole disclosed that on 25th June 2026 the officers received a tip from well-wishers that the suspect was keeping a firearm at his house.

This prompted a vibrant team of detectives from the station to immediately organise a raid during the dawn of 26th June and the officers successfully uncovered a Daisy pump gun which was hidden in his bedroom.

Meanwhile, police in Blantyre are keeping in custody the suspect as investigations continue to establish how he acquired the firearm.Chipiliro Kaliwo will appear in court soon to answer criminal related charges.

The Ministry of Health and Sanitation says Malawi has exceeded its target in the latest nationwide polio vaccination campaign, with 7,069,865 children under the age of 10 vaccinated, translating to a national coverage of 105.2 percent.

The immunisation exercise, which took place from June 16 to 19, aimed to vaccinate 6,717,939 children. According to the ministry, surpassing the target reflects the strong participation of communities and the country's continued commitment to protecting children from polio.

In a statement, the ministry hailed the campaign as a success and commended community health workers, teachers and volunteers for their dedication and relentless efforts in ensuring children were reached in homes and communities across the country.

The ministry said the achievement marks another important step in strengthening Malawi's immunisation programme and sustaining efforts to keep the country free from polio through widespread vaccination.

The Ministry of Health and Sanitation has announced the launch of Lenacapavir (LEN), a long-acting injectable HIV prevention medicine that will be introduced in Malawi's public health facilities from July 1, 2026.

In a press statement signed by Principal Secretary for Administration Bestone Chisamile, the ministry said Lenacapavir is a new pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) option for people who are HIV-negative but at substantial risk of contracting the virus.

According to the statement, Lenacapavir is administered once every six months, providing an additional HIV prevention option that is expected to strengthen the country's efforts to reduce new HIV infections and accelerate progress towards ending AIDS as a public health threat by 2030.

The ministry said the new injectable will complement existing HIV prevention interventions, including oral PrEP, injectable Cabotegravir, condom use, voluntary medical male circumcision, post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP), and behavioural interventions.

Ghana says it is working to evacuate more of its citizens from South Africa before planned anti-immigration protests on June 30, according to DW Africa.

Ghana’s High Commissioner to South Africa, Benjamin Quashie, said nearly 1,000 Ghanaians have already been voluntarily repatriated. He said more people have registered for help and the government is arranging their safe return.

DW Africa adds that the protests are being planned by South African activist groups demanding tougher action against undocumented migrants. Quashie said Ghana’s mission in Pretoria is monitoring the situation and working with authorities to protect Ghanaian citizens.
