We are headed back to Memphis today for a quick check up tomorrow in brain tumor clinic. We’ve taken the last couple weeks off of updates just to soak up time with family and get a plan in place. Two weeks ago Hadley started an oral chemo, Etoposide, at home. She will take it for 21 days, and then have a 7 day break each cycle. After two cycles, we will repeat scans to see where we are at. As we’ve said before, this is not to cure her, but to hopefully stabilize her tumor growth and buy her more good days!

She has been struggling with anxiety around taking the new medication, and with nausea in general. We are working closely with her team to do everything we can to help her with this. We’re also planning for some medication adjustments tomorrow during clinic that will help her even more.

Please continue to keep her in your prayers! Please pray that this chemo is keeping her disease at bay, and she begins to tolerate it a little better after a few changes are made.

Hadleys scanned showed what is likely tumor progression. The tumors were inflamed, but the growth shown today was much more than just inflammation. We are heartbroken. We are running out of options, and none of them will cure her. Thank you for your prayers over our family.

Here’s a silly picture from last night of her playing with her apples instead of eating them.

Update!

Hadley is now asleep for scans! She has been vomiting the last two mornings, we think due to anxiety around procedures, but because of that, they decided to intubate her for scans. This broke my heart even though I already knew it was likely. Hopefully she will have an uneventful day of napping in the scanner, and we can get her results quickly this afternoon. Thank you all for praying for our girl today! We are believing in her miracle!

Prayer request! 🚨🎗️

Hadleys scans are tomorrow morning at 9:30! Please be in prayer with us for the best possible outcome on these scans! They will determine her next steps in treatment and when we will come back to St. Jude. But no matter the results, we will be coming home Saturday! We are so ready to get to come home, but we have to make it through tomorrow, first!

Hadley has had a great week playing with friends, napping and saying “see ya laters” to all of her favorite girls in the school and therapy departments. We’ve found rocks and ducks, made tons of crafts, and ate our weight in chips and cheese dip! I’d say this was a pretty great last week here! Hopefully we can finish off strong with great scan results tomorrow afternoon!

GO GOLD 🎗️

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness month. A month that I didn’t even know was celebrated four years ago, until Hadley was diagnosed with stage 4 brain cancer and our world was turned upside down. When we first found out she had a tumor, we had no idea what was to come. We knew it was “one of the bad ones,” but there was no way to prepare us for her diagnosis or the months and years to come. These pictures are from that first week. The day she had her seizure, before her surgery, and after. Some of them have never even been shared before. It feels like just yesterday when we were traveling behind her on our way to Jackson, scared to death of what was going on. I’m so thankful for how far she’s come, but she still has so far to go, too!

To kick off this month, I’m going to be sharing our fundraiser for the St. Jude marathon. Not only does St. Jude provide everything for their families from housing, travel expenses, meals, treatment and anything else you can think of, they also fund a lot of their own research. Research that is federally underfunded. It has been such a blessing for our family to get some of the best care possible here, and we try so hard to give back when we can!

Hadleys procedure went pretty well on Thursday, but it wasn’t long before she was struggling with her headache and nausea. She felt pretty bad during the day, but finally was able to get some relief late that night. We did not have one of our usual nurses that night, so while she did finally start to feel a bit better, her entire med routine was screwed up because he “didn’t like how they were scheduled”. We are still trying to get the timing of all of her meds adjusted back to her regular times. Although we don’t expect another admission any time soon, I can guarantee he will not ever be one of her nurses again.

By Friday morning, Hadley was feeling pretty good! She was eating a decent amount, just not drinking enough. We eventually were discharged yesterday afternoon on fluids to help support her! She felt so good that we even made it outside to the playground last night after supper.

She requested donuts yesterday, but it was too late in the day, so this morning we made it happen! They enjoyed them so much! This afternoon, we spent some more time out at the play ground and Hadley was even able to have her fluids disconnected!

Thank you all for praying for Hadley and her treatments this month! We will take this week to recover and pack up, and Friday Hadley will have scans again. We will likely take another 1-2 weeks off to help her body recover and gain strength back, and then we will decide what kind of treatment we will start next.

Please pray for Hadleys scans! We were told to expect to see her tumors bigger than before, and we pray that it is due to inflammation and the tumors dying off. We will not be able to differentiate for sure whether the scans are showing inflammation vs. tumor growth. I pray this trial was the miracle we have been believing in for her, and that she is able to live a long, healthy, beautiful life!

Hadley is admitted again for her fourth and final T cell infusion scheduled for tomorrow afternoon! She’s very tired this evening and so ready to go to sleep! Admission nights are late and a little hectic, but we should soon all be headed to bed! Please be in prayer for Hadleys infusion tomorrow! Pray that her anxiety is eased before and during the procedure, that the T cells are doing their job to kill every cancerous cell in her body, and that her side effects are minimal and managed quickly!
