With all the excitement surrounding the new Scooby-Doo series and its adorable chocolate Great Dane puppy, there’s been a lot of discussion about Great Dane colors lately. I wasn’t planning on talking about it, but as someone who shares life with a Lilac Great Dane we adore, this feels like the perfect opportunity to talk about something I’ve learned firsthand.

Whenever a dog breed is featured in a popular movie or television show, interest in that breed tends to skyrocket. We’ve seen it happen with Dalmatians, Lassies, and countless others. Too often, demand grows faster than education, and people are left making important decisions without having all the information they should have.

For those who may not know, there are seven accepted Great Dane colors in the US: fawn, brindle, black, blue, harlequin, mantle, and merle. Chocolate (and lilac) in all marking variations, are not an accepted or standard Great Dane color.

Ivy is a Lilac Great Dane, we love her and she’s such an incredible dog, but loving her has also taught me a lot. Over the years, we’ve navigated multiple skin issues, structural concerns, and challenges that opened my eyes to the importance of responsible breeding practices.

Years ago, I didn’t know what I know now and honestly, I’m still learning. We saw a unique and beautiful puppy and fell in love. Education isn’t about judging past decisions; it’s about helping future ones.

Ethical breeders prioritize health testing, sound structure, stable temperaments, and the long-term preservation of the breed. Backyard breeders often market puppies based on what’s rare, unique, oversized, or in demand. Unfortunately, that comes at the expense of the qualities that make Great Danes such incredible dogs.

If you’re considering adding a Great Dane to your family, I encourage you to look beyond color or “American vs. European” labels. Ask questions. Dive deep into health testing and verify those results. Take some time to learn about structure and temperament. Find breeders who are committed to producing healthy, sound dogs and preserving the future of this incredible breed.

Every dog deserves the best possible start in life ♥️

I catch myself wishing often, that I could slow time down…

Not for the big moments, but for the simple ones on adventures like this. On this particular hike, we stopped for a bit, to take some photos and relax. I noticed the way they stop to take it all in while I stand there trying to do the same. Sometimes their noses were on the ground, but for some quiet moments, they just stood or sat, sniffing the air. It made me smile and realize this is what our hiking days are all about. It was a good reminder to slow down, and wonder, why the rush?

I know one day these photos will mean even more than they do now. Trying to make as many memories as possible with the pups, even if they are small.

I’m just grateful to be sharing this life with them 🤍🐾

Happy Malamute Monday! Sully’s extensive bloodwork came back from our holistic vet, and we finally got some answers 🤎

The two main concerns were very low thyroid levels and elevated GI fungal bacteria markers, so we also submitted a f***l exam + Giardia test to investigate the GI side further.

Everything else came back looking good, which we’re incredibly thankful for 🥹

After running a more comprehensive thyroid panel, she confirmed that Sully has hypothyroidism and will need thyroid medication/supplementation moving forward. Low thyroid function in dogs can affect much more than energy levels… it can contribute to skin issues, hair loss, muscle loss, weight changes, inflammation, and mobility challenges as well.

He also started hormone therapy last Friday (testosterone injections) to help support muscle maintenance, arthritis management, mobility, and skin health.

One thing I’ve been learning through my own health journey and my dogs too, is how connected everything in the body really is. Changes in hormones, gut health, inflammation, and mobility can all impact one another, especially in senior dogs (and us humans too).

Moving forward, I’m also starting to learn more about canine strengthening and mobility work so we can focus on improving his balance, strength, confidence, and overall quality of life ✨

Very thankful we caught these things now and hopeful we can help him feel more comfortable and supported moving forward 🤎

Meet the new adventure rig 🤎
2026 Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro

What’s an adventure without the dogs? Finding something that could comfortably fit all four while still being trail-ready felt almost impossible… until now.

Of course, the Transit Van isn’t going anywhere. It’ll still be our go-to for travel and plenty of adventures, but I wanted something that could truly get off the grid. Sometimes the van just can’t handle the dirt trails we love exploring.

We added a 3” lift, fresh black wheels, and 35s, plus finally enough room for all four dogs to spread out comfortably in the back. We removed the rear seats for extra space, and honestly, it’s been 100% worth it. The setup in the back is still a work in progress though!

Yesterday we did a test drive with all four dogs in the back, and it actually went pretty well. Sully definitely prefers having his own space, so it took everyone a minute to adjust and get comfortable enough to make him happy 😂 Once they settled in, it was smooth sailing.

At the beginning of our adventure with , Sully rode in their new Subaru, so we haven’t tested this setup before a hike yet, but that’s next. I’m pretty confident it’s going to work out just fine!

I can’t wait to share more adventures in the new Sequoia!

It feels so good to be back in the mountains again!

The weather was amazing this past week. We were in the upper 80’s with lots of sunshine! We took advantage, and hit the mountains. Surprisingly, it was even hot up there already! We were not quite expecting that. I’m getting so excited for all our summer adventures!

We will definitely be paddle boarding again and I am going to try car camping with the pups this year! I’m so excited, yet nervous for it. I used to camp a lot when I was younger but I don’t remember much! If you have any car camping advice, I’m all ears!! I will be going with who has experience, but always love hearing advice from you too! I most likely will be buying a SUV tent to attach to the back of the Sequoia. Although, I haven’t fully decided if I want to just take the van and camp in it. I really want to explore more in the Sequoia though!

Oh, the dilemma🫠😂

Do you camp or paddle board with your dogs?!

I didn’t expect this to be the last adventure in my 4Runner but here we are!

I haven’t had the change to take photos yet, but if you missed it in my stories, we ended up trading in the Puprunner for a 2026 Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro as my new dog mom car! It was time to go bigger. I’m really hoping it will fit all four for some adventures that the Transit van won’t make, but we will see. I’ll be doing a few short practice drives to make sure they are all comfortable! Sully likes his space, so I don’t wanna push it! We will be keeping the Transit Van regardless, so it’s not a big deal if it only works for the three danes or just Sully.

I can’t wait to share our adventures in the new dog mom car! I’ll be doing some fun upgrades to it, like I did the 4Runner, so stay tuned 🐾🚙

Adventures with them >>

With all the construction going on at our house right now, days like these have been so great! Packing my lunch & heading out to nature with my pups for the whole day is my favorite thing. They are very routine oriented dogs and of course their routine is a bit off, but they have been so good with everything going on!

Happy Friday! Interrupting our snowy feed with a little bit of spring 🌼

The weather here has been all over the place and not the norm at all, but I’ve been enjoying the early warmer weather though! I’m excited to bring out all the spring gear for the pups. So ready for some color pops! This color on Sully is one of my absolute favorites!! It just looks so dang good on him!

spring collection will be launching tomorrow, Saturday the 28th at 1pm MT. The bandanas are perfect & there are SO many biothane colors to choose from 💐 you can use code HULLPACK10 to save!

P.S - | and I are off to California for the weekend for a fun girls trip! I will share some stories of our few days.

Hope you have a great weekend!

The OG’s that started it all 🤍

I can’t believe Sully will be 10 and Ivy will be 9 this year. Where does time go?! I honestly couldn’t be more happy with how excited about life and energetic they still are. They are still doing big mountain hikes and Ivy is still competing in FastCAT here and there.

I also want to add how much Sully’s reactivity has improved over the years, I am so proud of him. I never thought I would see the day he would meet 11+ other dogs and hiking with them perfectly neutral. I am so thankful for him and everything he has taught me over the years. I wouldn’t be the same dog mom I am today, if it weren’t for him 🥹

P.S - this photo is somehow an illusion- Sully is definitely not that small next to Ivy 😂

How are you surviving the time change?

I’m so excited to have sunlight later in the evenings again — it instantly boosts my mood ☀️ The pups surprisingly handled their 1-hour dinner schedule change like champs. No protests from the food committee!

I think the fall time change is usually the tougher one since the clock falls back an hour… and dinner technically gets “later” in dog time 😆
