Let's Love Chinchillas & More Passionate about chinchilla care & rescue. We volunteer with Cali_FID to help save, rehab & rehome chinchillas in need. Follow for tips, stories & adoptables.

We are not a rescue on our own but do operate under a local rescue. We're fosters for the rescue, as well as the rescue's adoption and foster home coordinators. We do our best to aid the Chinchillas that are moved through they system. We are simply Chinchilla enthusists ( and other animals ) who want to share about animals and help out owners.

I have another pet p*eve.

Breeders.

Please stop calling your animal sales, " adoptions ".
I am very pro adopt OR shop, but either case needs to be ethical. Not all " rescues " and not all " breeders ' are equal.

When you ADOPT that's typically giving a pet who's been surrendered or rescued a SECOND CHANCE at a good life. You're supporting non-profit rescues doing the good the work.

When you PURCHASE that's typically finding a specific breeder who takes pride in their herd and the animals they produce. For Chinchillas, these animals are shown, pedigreed, and selected particularly for their fur-quality traits. You're investing in the species preservation and quality, and the human doing the work to do it. It's very expensive to breed small rodents that DON'T produce many babies in a year. That's why chins are costly.

When rescues say they " sell animals " people immediately get put off, ( rescues are a non-profit business legally, and so yes, even adoptions are animal sales or sometimes considered donations. )

When breeders say they " adopt out " animals, it almost camouflages that they're breeders. Be proud to be doing the work, not shameful. You damage your own community by cosplaying as rescue.

You're also blurring the lines. Do you know how many people purchase chinchillas from you, sorry, " adopt " then turn around and try to adopt the opposite s*x animal from a rescue to breed. The breeder produced that animal, " adopted " it out to the buyer, and now the buyer thinks ADOPTED animals should be anywhere in a breeding equation.

It's unethical to breed animals from rescues or animals adopted because their genetic history and origin is UNKNOWN. Thats standard across all communities. So why blur those lines calling the product you produced and sold, an adoptable ( aka rescue ) animal.

I don't like it, I feel it blurs ethical likes and I'll always question the motives.

Shop responsibility from a good source. Adopt if you can. Avoid pet store chains and absolutely avoid this backyard breeders ( aka your friend who had a random litter, or Steve from Craigslist. )

When in doubt, ask questions.

I need your help finding all of the California small animal rescues and creator accounts. ( Oregon, Nevada, Arizona, and Mexico too ). Please tag them so I can follow them.

I love that social media helps us connect and meet people across the nation and ofc in other areas of the world too... But when a crisis pops up, or a critter in need of help immediately just out of reach happens, it can feel VERY hard to get it handled because... We just don't know enough local ( ish ) people.

The best way to combat that ( I think ) is to find them. I don't want to hassle anyone, or sign someone up for the school carnival 😂 or anything, but I'm not naturally being suggested enough local ( ish ) accounts.

All small animal rescues and creators welcome!

Hamsters, rats, mice, guinea pigs, rabbits, chinchillas, fish keeping, turtles, tortoises, parrots, small birds, livestock, etc. If you have ferrets, hedgehogs, sugar gliders, etc... I won't tell I just wanna see them! Lol

While I was down, I couldn't do much with my dogs and we were all going crazy. My friend who's a pet sitter brought over some puzzles and my girls loved them!

Ella, Aussie, went through them fast! So we need some harder level items for her.

Rylee, Aussie, slowly figured it out and got pretty good at it.

Mae the cat also figured it out and helped Rylee.

The other cats also showed lots of interest, so I'll be looking for smaller cat ones too.

I have 101 in my chewy cart, but I'm waiting for a good coupon / offer. 😂🫣

If I can find some small ones I just might try with Odin and Grumpy, my " smart " chins lol

But, let's make up something else.

What is Posie doing, and why?

( Context : Posie is a little older, and she has lasting neurological issues from what we believe is a severe inner ear infection that caused it. She was retired out to me. She came from a good breeder who gave her a good life, and wanted her to retire in a comfortable pet home. Posie sometimes pokes her eye on a toy or hay, and will irritate it. Sometimes she has medicated eye drops and sometimes she has plain saline. Posies color is a gold bar, so think white with a yellow/blonde tone. She has p*e on her tail. She always does. It's because she sleeps in the hay feeder and p*es in it, she won't stop. I won't take it away though because it's her safe spot. I just clean her tail up. )

New year, new possibilities 🩷

Harper made it to 2026 thanks to everyone. 🤗

I know updates have been slow, but I myself am healing 😄 I just now resumed taking over meds for the chins and let my husband off the hook ( Harper had meds 2x a day, Gemma had meds 2x a day, Posie gets supplemental meals. )

I see my doctor at the end of next week, and hope by that following Monday I'm back to work per usual. I had a little accident last night that has left me feeling pain again ( I knocked a bowl over, and my immediate reaction was to try to catch it... In the process of jerking, twisting, and pulling at all my abdominal incisions 🥴 but I caught the bowl! 😂😭 But at what cost! )

This is grumpy with me, at least 11 years ago. 😂🩷

Some of our best performing posts are being flagged as stock video and AI content INCORRECTLY.

Which removed monetization revenue, and lost us a small bit of change. 🫠

People think grumpy is AI.

People can't tell the difference between what's real and what's fake anymore : I DON'T USE GENERATIVE IMAGES OR VIDEO.

And using it constantly is making people's brains moosh.

I didn't prepare anything super special like a photo shoot or graphic, I've been no-life playing Grimshire in my recliner while I wait to heal up.

The dogs and I just hunkered down because there's a thunderstorm and fireworks that have been on and off since 8pm 🥴

The chins and cats couldn't care less.
My husband is doing his best to comfort the crazy dog 😂 where trazadone couldn't.

Always happy to get her supplemental meal.

( Posie eats pellets and hay, but her wobbles can be aggressive at times due to her neurological issues, so when that happens, we make sure she has some easy food too ( which is critical care powder ).

I need to continue this, and include more mutations. I'm hoping in 2026 I can give myself more time for creative things ...
