Nick Fury has been adopted ❤️🐟

Nick is our king Betta that came to the rescue with the diamond eye condition.

He is headed off to be an office pet in a very nice tank that's all ready for him. :)

We still have one more Betta, Angel, waiting for his forever home in Modesto Ca.

Life gets away from the best of us!

I'm a few days late on cleaning my enclosures but you know what? Everyone was happy to get fresh hay, refreshed food bowls, clean shavings, cleaned hammocks, chews, and a good evening from me today.

My chinchillas are much happier at home, with me, ( even in downsized enclosures for the time being ) than they would be in holding cages or strangers homes.

Sometimes surrendering is unavoidable, but if you can downsize your cage and simplify your care routine in order to make it through the busy season of life... Isn't that worth trying?

A good home is hard to come by these days, we would hate to see even one go because they don't feel good enough and get it " confirmed " by unrealistic standards online.

Fed. Clean. Loved. Cared for. It's all that matters.

My bedtime these days is 8-9pm. I'm exhausted.

Two single males need a home /home. They do not live together and do not get along.

They need a home this week. Owner is in Japan and their ex boyfriend is caring for the pets in their absence.

FOR MORE INFORMATION CONTACT THE OWNER.

This is what their post says:

Hello,
My name is Ashley, and I have two chinchillas named Goop & Meelo.

🐨Goop (12•31•19) 6 years old
🐻‍❄️Meelo (3•16•20) 6 years old

It pains me to say this, but right now I’m currently abroad (Japan) for a job and my ex boyfriend has been looking after my two chinchillas in the meantime. We haven’t found any loving homes for them and wanted to avoid sheltering, but it seems like that might be the case due to the urgency of the situation. Because I am unsure of my future plans and current housing arrangements, I unfortunately need to give up the chinchillas by the end of the week.

They were bonded for two years, but Meelo got bigger than Goop and they ended up fighting, so I separated them. I was wondering if I could find a breeder, rescue, or foster home before resulting to a shelter. (I would pay transit costs to transport them to you since I am located in Orange County) I would also throw in extra $$ if you could take them (message me).

There is currently a large cage that separates them, but it’s used and extremely heavy and due time for a new one. However, it’s still in decent condition for them to live in (obviously a better place to live than a shelter would be). I would also hand over all pet supplies and food that I have to the shelter or person who relocates them.

Due to character space, the animals bios will be in the comments / edited to add back to the Facebook post once the cross posting is completed.

Edited for bios to be added :

🐨GOOP🐨:
Goop (black) I got from Petsmart during the pandemic and he’s a curious little one and I feel like I got really lucky given that he was from the pet store. He’s never really liked to be held even after my attempts of training him. He likes to do his own thing, but once he warms up to you, he will jump all over you and get really comfortable coming to you himself, but he doesn’t like being held for long periods of time. He usually likes to run around when playing on his own, and then he will make himself so tired that he just goes back to the cage and sleeps🤣.

🐻‍❄️MEELO🐻‍❄️:
Meelo (white) I got from a local breeder in NorCal, CA. Meelo is a little more mellow than goop and isn’t as hyper outside the cage, but is very curious and loves to look for places to go under, and I would describe his personality as shy. He is a lot more used to being held than goop and has an easier time being handled. He doesn’t jump around or run around as much as goop, so he could honestly be outside the cage all day just exploring if he wanted. Because he doesn’t really run around and tire himself out like Goop does, I usually have to put him back in the cage after playtime.

Anything would help!!!!!

Here! Harper is still here 🩷

Harper is doing _______. (?) 🤷🏼‍♀️

I don't want to say " well " because we've been struggling to clear her breathing up. I don't want to say " poorly " because she also isn't sick anymore or infected that we can confirm. We just haven't been able to say she has a clean bill of health — yet.

She doesn't have any discharges, odors, or an URI. We're starting to suspect it could be due to scarring and damage to her sinuses but we really just don't know.

She's been on antibiotics and she's seen the vet, but if things continue to remain the same we may take her back in just to see if any new concerns have come up that we are missing.

What we DO know is that she's plump and gaining weight like a prized hog. She's happy, gnawing though her toys and wooden ledges Jess put in her enclosure. She's relaxed and happy lounging on her pillows and hammocks too. She loves treat time.

Harper is just a girl with chronic problems but that's what makes her ✨ Iconic ,✨.

We noticed the heavy breathing and rumbly lungs are more prominent under stressful circumstances so we've been giving her more peace vs photoshoots.

Carson City, Nevada Humane Society.

This is a courtesy post.
We do not have these animals.
This owner has been trying to find a home for their chinchillas since July in Carson City, NV.

We have been unable to help as we're in California.

This message was sent to us this month:

" Hello, I am back. I have tried FB posts and Craigslist. I have talked to the local pet stores. I have not been successful in rehoming Penny and Pepper. I understand that it can take years to successfully rehome a pair of chinchillas.
I am not able to have them in my current living situation. I finally gave up and contacted the Carson City, Nevada Humane Society. I have an appointment to surrender these two today. They should be available for adoption in a few days. If you know of anyone from NV looking for a pair of bonded chins, please point them that way. "

The chinchillas would likely be with the Humane Society. CONTACT THEM.

Please do not harass the petstore employees.

There's a post circulating around from an individual who had a fake tee shirt made to pretend he was " Staff " with an animal welfare organization and he went into a local chain store to lecture, harass, and request that the store relinquish their animals into his care.

This is wholly wrong. It's a fraud. It's an intimation. It sets the whole animal welfare movement BACK as well.

I will be the first to admit that all petstores, big and small, have room to learn and represent their animals better. I do not want all petstores to stop selling animals though. I want them to be held to higher, stronger, welfare standards so animals are careful for well, their new owners are well informed, and properly prepared.

Working with GOOD breeders, supporting ethical sources, helps knock back the demand from backyard breeders and having these animals accessible from reliable sources is a big part of that.

Anyway, that deserves it's own post.

Chain petstores are stuck with whatever corporate deems necessary, so corporate is who you should speak to if you have welfare concerns.

Store managers typically will address issues if it's brought to their attention respectfully. Again, go above them if necessary. Regional managers and corporate.

Harassing their staff only makes that store apprehensive to work with anyone, out of fear of being the next viral video or otherwise. If you genuinely want to make a difference, push for legislation that requires higher welfare standards.

If you are witnessing actual neglect or god forbid abuse, and the store manager isn't addressing it... then document it for corporate, all your local animal control office and have have an officer respond immediately, and get a copy of that report too. By all means hold bad apples accountable.

I will say, chain stores at least have policies written in black and white. Some good, like requiring veterinary care, some bad, like what items must go in the enclosures ( and they're not great ).

More often than not, it's mom & pop stores, feed stores, flea markets, and backyard breeders who DO NOT have polices and DO NOT seek veterinary care.

Goodbye Smokey!

Smokey has been reunited with his family! He has a lot of words for them, and they owe him lots of treats, but I'm sure he will be so happy to have his mansion back and be with his family. In his home 😍

Our original post about Smokey below. 👇

Welcome Smokey 🐾

First, I want to be clear: WE ARE FULL. We are not accepting surrenders at this time. We do not board. We are not a boarding facility.

Smokey’s owner reached out yesterday, heartbroken, to surrender him. Their HVAC system has been failing, and despite multiple tech visits, the issue hasn’t been fixed. At random times, the system would fail and the temperature in their home would rise to dangerous levels. This meant they had to rush home from work to protect Smokey, terrified of losing him the way they lost a chinchilla to heat stroke years ago.

After much anguish, they made the incredibly difficult decision to surrender Smokey to keep him safe.

But after talking on the phone, I knew the last thing I wanted was to separate a loved pet from a safe, caring home, especially when the problem is so temporary. Their AC can be repaired or replaced, or even supplemented with a portable or window unit. In this case, Smokey could return home and live happily with his family for another 6++++ years.

So, we worked out a deal. Smokey can stay with us for 2–4 weeks while his family fixes the HVAC situation. He can go home sooner, of course, but we’ve agreed on a short-term stay. To be clear, we do have a signed surrender form on file in case they don’t stay in contact but hope we won't have to enforce it.

We’re not sharing this to shame Smokey’s family. Quite the opposite. They were willing to make an incredibly hard choice to protect him, and that shows love. They did the right thing reaching out for help.

We can’t always offer this kind of short-term care as most rescues aren’t boarding facilities, and it’s not something people should expect from us but in this case, we could step in. Hopefully, Smokey will be back home safe and sound very soon.

❤️ I volunteer with rescues because I wanted to help animals and their owners..

We spent our evening getting several of the adoptable chinchillas added to parrot and exotics rescue sanctuary's Pet Finder Profile as well as two Betta fish that have become available for adoption too.

If you're in the Modesto CA area ( & surrounding cities ) contact us for more information, our fees are lower than anyone's in the state right now! 😀

We have one flat fee for the chinchillas. Single. Bonded. Young. Old. Male. Female. Doesn't matter because fee is the same.
