According to the American Anthropological Association anthropology is simply defined as the study of humans, past and present. However, anthropology is much more complex than the simple definition given. Anthropology is the study of cultures across all of human history and draws upon from the social sciences, biological sciences, humanities, and physical sciences to acquiring that knowledge. Within the field of anthropology there are four sub-disciplines, physical anthropology, cultural anthropology, linguistics, and archaeology. Physical anthropology, also referred to as biological anthropology, is the study of humans as biological organisms. Cultural or social anthropology is the study of the lifeways, ideas and organization of living people. Linguistics is the comparative studies of languages and the social context of language use. Archaeology is the study of past societies through the study of material culture (Meyer, 10-11). Through the uses of the four sub-disciplines, anthropologists uses the knowledge gained to answer questions such as human origins, the past and the current spread infectious disease as well as the treatment of it and globalization. The Anthropology Club was created to learn and discuses about how the individuals in this field are affecting the world. This club will offer its member’s opportunities to participate in both cultural and archaeological research, as well as provide a diverse education on what one can do in the fields of anthropology through lectures and hands on experience. Non-Anthropology majors are welcome. Rules and Regulation:
1) All current and past members can post on the page as long as it is anthropological in nature (ie through an anthropological view).
2) All articles and educational videos must be from a creditable source (ie it can’t be from like OK Magazine or if it looks like someone just put it together without any proof).
