G20 or G1 million? That’s a question.
South Africa has broken new ground by being the first African country to host the 2025 G20 Johannesburg Summit. Despite the absence of the United States, the summit moved ahead and secured a major milestone: a leaders’ declaration focused on climate change, debt burdens and supporting poorer nations.
Sure, not everything was perfect some countries sent low-level representatives, and the missing attendance of some global leaders raised eyebrows.
But here’s the bigger story: South Africa put African priorities on the global table. It opened a door for us youth creators, storytellers, and thinkers to say: our voices count too.
What this means for us:
▪︎ Our country is stepping onto a global stage no longer just in the audience.
▪︎ Issues that affect us—inequality, climate resilience, debt relief—are now highlighted in a global forum.
▪︎ For filmmakers, podcasters, entrepreneurs: this is our moment to lean in and be part of the narrative.
