The PCT through Siskiyou County is more than a line through the mountains, it’s a journey through some of California’s wildest landscapes and most unforgettable trail towns.

For roughly 120 miles, hikers move beneath Castle Crags and Mount Shasta, through alpine lakes, deep forests and the rugged Marble Mountains. But the real character of this section comes from the people waiting beyond the trail.

In Seiad Valley, the café and general store are much more than places to eat and resupply. They’re gathering places where dusty hikers trade stories, compare miles and experience the generosity of local trail angels—people offering rides, cold drinks, a place to rest and the encouragement needed for the next climb.

Etna brings its own kind of trail magic. Hikers come down from Etna Summit to find a welcoming small town, a meal at the café and wood-fired food and local spirits at Denny Bar Company. Packs come off, stories get longer and strangers begin to feel like old friends.

Farther south, Dunsmuir’s Burger Barn serves the kind of burgers, fries and shakes hikers dream about for miles.

That’s what makes the Siskiyou County section special: dramatic scenery, fiercely individual towns and a trail culture built on generosity. Every season, people arrive from around the world—and communities like Dunsmuir, Etna and Seiad Valley make them feel at home.

The trail may bring hikers through Siskiyou County, but it’s the people and places along the way that they remember.

The community has an opportunity to come together for the Lanier family. ❤️

Tuesday, August 18, Primo’s Barbershop in Yreka will be holding a walk-in haircut fundraiser in memory of Trevor Lanier. From 9 AM–5 PM, haircuts will be $25, with all proceeds going directly to Trevor’s family to help with funeral expenses.
