Out now on Magic Door!
Her Favorite Disguise by The Melancholy Kings — streaming everywhere and available on vinyl.
From the opening jangle-pop of “Six Feet Down” to the wistful pull of “Kensington,” the album moves between sharp hooks and deeper emotional currents. “Bitcoin Elegy” pulses with urgency, while “Astor Place” and “UV” drift into dreamier, layered territory. And yes — there’s even a standout cover of Guided By Voices’ “Alex Bell.”
Mike Potenza, Scott Selig, Peter Horvath, and Paul Andrew make melodic rock that’s textured, cinematic, and a true headphone turner — with additional performances from Mac Gollehon (trumpet), Carolyn Jeselsohn (cello), Carl Riehl (accordion), Olivia Selig (vocals), Ray Ketchem (percussion), and Renée LoBue (vocals).
Recorded, mixed, and mastered by Ray Ketchem at Magic Door Recording, The Big Takeover’s Dave Franklin writes:
“I’m not sure what they put in the water in New Jersey, but this is the latest in a long line of impressive releases from producer/engineer Ray Ketchem at Magic Door Recording Studio. He might have the creative equivalent of the Fountain of Youth in the studio’s backyard, though I suspect the reality is that he is just good at his job. Damned good!”
