Poets and editor Sharon Darrow will be reading from “The Country in the Mirror: Poems of Protest & Witness,” published by Rootstock Publishing.

Would you like to read a poem on the themes of protest and witness at the event? There will be an open mic sign up sheet on a first come, first served basis.

“Including nearly ninety poets from across the United States and Canada, The Country in the Mirror: Poems of Protest & Witness is an urgent anthology of poems written in response to these troubling times. It is comprised of a variety of voices, from new writers to well-seasoned poets who are widely published and celebrated, such as Martín Espada, Nikki Grimes, Rachel Hadas, Gregory Maguire, Bianca Stone, among others. The poems explore a myriad of issues related to immigration, detention, civil rights, climate change, rising fascism, global wars, genocide, abortion, LGBTQIA+ experiences and more.

This collection holds a mirror to our diversity, our freedom of expression, and our collective humanity to remind us of the liberties we have as Americans, and to caution of their loss.”

Help us welcome Dr. Natalie R. Cohen Natalie R Cohen, PsyD to Rootstock Publishing!

Natalie R. Cohen, PsyD (she/her), is a New York City-based clinical psychologist and psychoanalyst with over twenty years of experience in private practice, with additional certification as a New York State school psychologist. She works with adults, adolescents, and children in individual and couples therapy.

Her training includes: the NYU Postdoctoral Program in Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis; a doctorate in psychology from Yeshiva University’s Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology; a master’s degree in human development from Pacific Oaks College; a bachelor’s degree in French with a minor in German from the University of Wisconsin–Madison; the MDMA-Assisted Therapy Training Program through MAPS; and specialized certificates through Fluence in psychedelic harm reduction and integration, including ketamine- and psilocybin-assisted therapy.

In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Cohen is a curriculum developer, writer, and public speaker. Her work contributes to ongoing conversations at the intersection of mental health, sexuality, embodiment, and the evolving field of psychedelic-assisted therapy.
She lives with her partner, tween daughter, and their puppy. Outside the consulting room and the page, she can be found dancing barefoot, swimming, boxing, practicing yoga, or walking the Central Park reservoir, quietly imagining what it means to live fully—both in this dimension and beyond.

We are honored to hear Rootstock titles and authors mentioned on the Summer Reading program on Vermont Public! Thank you Kim Crady-Smith of Green Mountain Books and Prints for recommending Lyn Bixby's THE PACIFIST, which she says deserves a wide audience (we agree!). And thanks to Kristin Baumann of the Aldrich Public Library for mentioning Melissa Perley, children's book author of THE VIOLIN FAMILY and THE VIOLIN FAMILY MAKES NEW FRIENDS, who will be at the Aldrich on August 6th. David Budbill (The Literary Estate of David Budbill) was also mentioned, as a retrospective of his work will be at the Highland Center for the Arts this summer.
