Wonder what happened to the S&*+ Kit Challenge Hawker Typhoon? Well, I work on it in short sessions. And to be quite honest, it doesn't look THAT terrible. It is still a crappy kit? Oh yeah. There's no getting around that. But for the learning experience, this is the perfect kit.

One of the new bench occupants is this Hasegawa Ki-84 in 1/48 scale. So far it's looking really nice, plus the metallic acrylic marker set I purchased is making a big difference in the amount of engine detail I'm able to easily do.

This time, I'll be spraying the clearcoats instead of brushing, so wish me luck. Have a feeling I'm gonna need it lol.

A few photos of some of the builds seen at this past Saturday's IPMS Virginia Shootout show in Salem, Virginia. Fantastic work, the respective builders did a great job.

Insane. Today's IPMS Virginia Shootout show was my very first competing. My goal was for my models to look like they belonged on a judging table and not like a bunch of imposters.

One of the special build categories was the Atlantis 1955 Chevy Street Rod kit. I went outside the box and modeled it after the old military staff cars and turned it into a racer of sorts, complete with homemade mud effects.

Ladies and gentlemen...the WINNER of the 1955 Chevy category was my build. I'm still in disbelief. Huge thanks to the IPMS Roanoke Valley club for hosting this event, I had a really good time!

It's Virginia Shootout day! Hosted by the IPMS Roanoke Valley Chapter, this will be my first time entering models in a show. Looking forward to a good time hanging with the folks from my local IPMS Shenandoah Valley Modelers club as well!

Ladies and gentlemen,

The Atlantis 1955 Chevy is done. I wanted to go way outside the box compared to what a majority would do with it, and I think it came out great for being my first car build since I was about 12 years old. I had so much fun with the dirt textures and doing the base (just simple baking powder and acrylic paint mixed into a slurry).

This will make the trip to the VA Shootout in Salem, VA this coming Saturday.

First attempt at making a base. $1 piece of wood at walmart and some apple barrel craft paint.

$&*+ kit challenge update

1/72 Eastern Express Hawker Typhoon

The first photo is literally the entire kit. It has no cockpit parts at all. Nor does it have any intake grill parts.

I had to whittle one of the prop blades into proper shape due to the level of flash (before photo pictured).

I completed the first 5 steps of the build then applied a grey primer, stopping there for the time being to allow the primer time to dry well.

I have chosen my first victim for my $&*+ Kit Challenge series.

Because in Mother Russia, kit build YOU!

I forgot I had this old Eastern Express 1/72 Typhoon in my stash. This is as basic as basic gets. Raised panel lines? I'm not even sure this thing HAS panel lines.

The goal? Just have some fun and see what I can make out of it. Stay tuned.
