Effective May 12, Starbucks will implement a revised dress code policy for all baristas, standardizing attire worn beneath the iconic green apron. Under the new guidelines, partners will be required to wear a solid black shirt paired with khaki, black, or blue denim pants. Both short- and long-sleeved shirts are permitted, with or without collars.

According to the company, this update is designed to enhance the visibility of the green apron while reinforcing a sense of familiarity and consistency across stores.

“In refining our dress code, we aim to create a more cohesive coffeehouse experience,” Starbucks stated in a recent website announcement. “These changes will provide clearer, simplified guidance for our partners—allowing them to focus on what matters most: crafting high-quality beverages and building meaningful connections with our customers.”

Pfizer has announced the discontinuation of its experimental daily weight loss pill, danuglipron, after a study participant experienced a case of liver injury potentially linked to the drug. According to a company spokesperson, the patient "recovered rapidly" after discontinuing use of the medication.

Danuglipron, an oral GLP-1 receptor agonist, was being developed as a potential competitor to blockbuster weight loss drugs such as Eli Lilly’s Zepbound and Novo Nordisk’s Wegovy. The compound had attracted significant investor interest due to its potential in the highly competitive weight management market.

“While we are disappointed to discontinue the development of danuglipron, we remain committed to evaluating and advancing promising programs in an effort to bring innovative new medicines to patients,” said Dr. Chris Boshoff, Pfizer’s Chief Scientific Officer, in a statement.

Brice Oligui Nguema has secured a decisive victory in the presidential election, obtaining 90.35% of the votes cast, according to provisional results. This outcome grants him a seven-year mandate and positions him to address longstanding issues of corruption that characterized the previous administration.

Nguema, 50, rose to prominence after leading the August 2023 coup that ousted former President Ali Bongo. The Bongo family had ruled Gabon since 1967, with their decades-long tenure marked by increasing public discontent.

In the recent election, Nguema faced seven challengers, including his main opponent, former Prime Minister Alain Claude Bilie-by-Nze, who garnered just over 3% of the vote. Bilie-by-Nze previously served under the Bongo regime. Other notable candidates included Stéphane Germain Iloko and Alain Simplice Boungouères, both prominent figures within the former ruling Gabonese Democratic Party (PDG).
