Congratulations to Upshur County Commissioner Kristie Tenney on being selected to receive the 2026 Governor's Mountaineer Spirit Award for her work in encouraging participation in the Mountaineer Mile!

Presented through Volunteer West Virginia as part of the Governor's Service Awards, the Mountaineer Spirit Award recognizes individuals whose volunteer service, leadership, and dedication make a lasting impact on their communities and our state.

Commissioner Tenney has inspired countless West Virginians through their commitment to health, wellness, community engagement, and service. Her efforts have encouraged people of all ages to get active, connect with one another, and embrace the spirit that makes West Virginia such a special place to call home.

Tucked in the mountains just outside Morgantown, Chestnut Ridge Park and Campground is one of North Central West Virginia’s best outdoor escapes, offering scenic hiking trails, fishing ponds, camping, swimming, and year-round adventure surrounded by the forests of Coopers Rock. 🌲🏕️ Almost Heaven vibes at their finest.

Avian Conservation Center of Appalachia showed us some pretty awesome birds for bird day at Morgantown Public Library. The birds named Ohio (from Ohio County WV), Randolph, and Berkeley did a great job showing off for the kids there to learn about them!

Heartbreaking news here in West Virginia as two lives were lost and many others hospitalized following a chemical leak this morning. Moments like this remind us how quickly things can change for families, workers, and entire communities.

My grandma turned 100 years old today. 🎉

She grew up in Pendleton County, West Virginia, and has lived there through a full century of history: the Great Depression, world wars, the moon landing, the internet, and everything in between. Through it all, she’s stayed the same loving, strong, steady person our family has always known.

A hundred years of stories.
A hundred years of wisdom.
A hundred years of West Virginia roots.
