Every mount that leaves my shop has a story behind it, but every once in a while, one comes along that means a little more.
This particular deer was brought to me by a father who wanted to have it mounted for his son. His son has been through more in his young life than any kid should ever have to face.
When he brought the deer in, he asked me if I would sign the back of the mount because he thought I might be famous one day. 😂
I told him I’d be honored to sign it. But I also wanted to leave him something more than just my name—something he could look back on years from now and remember.
So I wrote him a few words about life, the outdoors, and the road ahead.
Life isn’t about where you start, but the path you choose to take. Stay strong, chase your dreams, and never stop believing in yourself. May this mount always remind you of the memories you make and the man you become.
I’m just a taxidermist doing what I love, but moments like this remind me that what we do can sometimes mean a whole lot more than just putting a deer on the wall.
I hope this mount hangs on his wall for many, many years—and that every time he looks at it, he remembers this moment and the man he grew up to be.
And who knows… maybe one day he really will be able to say, “I knew him before he was famous.” 😂

Just got back from another taxidermy competition—the Tennessee Taxidermists Association show—and I couldn’t be more thankful for the experience and the people I’ve had the opportunity to learn from along this journey.

I recently competed at the Alabama show with one of my pieces and was fortunate enough to do really well with it. After that show, I took the knowledge and advice I gained from some of the best taxidermists around and put it to work on a new piece for Tennessee.

That new piece ended up taking 1st Place in the Professional Division, I also received the Mears award which is given to the highest scoring whitetail mounted on a Mears Whitetail Forms,(plaque not in picture got damaged during shipping will be mailed)along with the most artistic whitetail award...while the piece I competed with in Alabama earned 2nd Place .

Some people might look at that 2nd Place and be upset or disappointed—but I choose to look at it differently. In my opinion, that mindset is chasing pride, and you can't grow when pride gets in the way of learning.

I see it as growth.

I see it as an honor to be surrounded by high-class taxidermists who are willing to share their knowledge and experience with me. Every person sees things a little differently, and every taxidermist has something new to teach you if you're willing to listen and learn.

We are all human, and none of us will ever know everything. The moment you think you do is the moment you stop growing.

So now it's time to take everything I've learned throughout this past year, put it all together, and start working on the next piece.

The goal is always to get better than I was yesterday.

Thank you to everyone who has helped me along this journey, shared knowledge with me, encouraged me, and pushed me to keep improving. I truly appreciate every one of you.

Now…it's time to get ready for next year! 🦌🏆
