#PoliticalSeason is heating up and starting off wrong for some hopefuls.

Newbie #DianeRogersArroya and city employee #MalcolmClark who was running for district leader received bad news from the board of elections the other day. Apparently, there petitions were loaded with multiple inaccuracies with a wide rang of errors.

They can appeal it, but sources say the Board of Elections carefully count and verity each and every signature vigorously - the chances of them getting back on the ballot is slim to none.

Arroya was recently recruited to the Mount Vernon Forward clique, lead by Kenny Plummer and the mayor, after moving from the Bronx.

Clarke, who is an “aide/go-for” for Mayor Shawn Patterson Howard is also a district leader and was seeking reelection. Clarke is known for following the mayor around, yes ma’am, no ma’am - things like that.

More this and other hopefuls who didn’t make the ballot. District Leaders are political positions and are only elected to support the party - they are NOT city employees or officials.

Aside from District Leaders, Board of Education has 4 seats open. Election is on May 17.

Mayoral election is next year.

👮🏿 #NewPolicePrecinct: 🚔 Mount Vernon Police Department’s Wellness and Community Affairs Division will be opening up a new precinct located at 203 Gramatan Ave.

The new precinct will address the social hurdles plaguing at-risk populations, from children and the elderly to the formerly incarcerated and those with behavioral health issues, according to #LOHUD.

The building is expected to open up TODAY.

It will operate from as it’s own precinct and will be involved in the School-Community Safety Partnership, an initiative with the Mount Vernon school district to curb teen violence and support at-risk students.

Some residents we spoke to support the plan, however there were a few that are saying it’s located on the wrong side of town.

One resident questioned the staffing; do we have enough officers to fulfill this plan. It’s well known the city’s police department has been shortstaffed for years. Just recently the department lost two officers - one officer resigned and was carted off to jail for killing a man on a motorcycle, while another officer, a field training officer, quit.

Former Mayor Ernest D. Davis opened up a police precinct back in the 90s on third Street - months later it closed its doors.

#LowTurnOut: Mount Vernon School District opened their doors to students this week, after that deadly stabbing, but some say not everyone returned.

Sources over at #MVHS and #DWSA say some classes are half empty and additional security is unnoticeable.

At #DWS the metal detectors are up and running, with no additional security officers. One parent claims each school does not have “dedicated grief counselors.” They have been rotating them throughout the district.

Meanwhile, the second victims family is still waiting to hear from the school district. They haven’t heard from one guidance counselor, a principal, no one from the district has reached out to the family to offer support.

It’s unclear what the districts plan is to curb the violence within the schools. Until they find a plan that works, parents we spoke to say they are keeping their child AWAY from MVHS.

Mount Vernon is filthy. This cancer called #Blight has officially taken over the city. #MVNC has received dozens of pictures illustrating the garbage pilling up in neighborhoods.

The mayor should seriously consider setting up a Blight Task Force that will address the abandoned, run down buildings, vacant overgrown lots and now homeless encampments inside municipal parking lots.

The homeless population has increased dramatically and it’s effecting the quality of life. If there's a blighted area you think we should know about, send us a message.

Honestly, if it wasn’t for Shah, who knows how this city would look. 💯

#ThankYouEastchester: David McKay of LOHUD has now reported the town of #Eastchester, who has for decades sat on the sidelines, unwilling to take ownership of the neglected Lake Isle dam while it languished in disrepair, has now vowed to take over the dam and plans to repair the dam.

MVNC reported last year that the dam was in failure and threatening those living downstream in New Rochelle and Mount Vernon if the dam were to collapse.

According to LOHUD, the small town will obtain the structure’s central masonry structure, an essential part of a plan to repair the dam with funding promised from the #state of New York, Westchester #County, and possibly, the #federal government.

Assemblywoman Amy Pailin told LOHUD, “Now everybody is on board,” said Paulin. “We’ll soon find out exactly what needs to be done. We’ll get it fixed and have a structure that will be good for another 100 years.”

David who has been reporting on this for years, provides much more:

#MVPD - Now, former Mount Vernon police officer #AntoineHenrys pleaded guilty Tuesday for the death of a motorcyclist he killed with his BMW on the Hutchinson River Parkway.

It was on Sept. 25, 2020, while off-duty, Henrys was pushing his #BMW 129 mph on the northbound side of the Hutch, when he rear-ended an SUV near the Lincoln Avenue exit.

The speed limit on the Hutch is 50 miles per hour.

The force of his BMW was so violent and strong it pushed the SUV into the next lane of traffic, colliding with Osorio's, who was on a motorcycle. The impact sent the poor guy body over the median into the southbound lanes, where he was hit by several cars.

Every officer I spoke to had nothing but good things to say about Henrys. Unidentified officers said he never did anything wrong in his life until that day where he made a simple mistake. A simple mistake with tragic consequences.

Antoine turned in his badge and resigned on Monday.

Henrys faces up to 90 days in jail when sentenced in June.

Osorio died at the scene, he was 52 and lived in White Plains.
