122 beans from one ounce. Yep... I actually counted them.
If you saw my post the other day about getting seeded flower from a dispensary, I decided to break down the ounce and see just how bad it really was. The final count was 122 seeds from one ounce of flower, and honestly, as someone who grows, that is pretty wild to me.
I'm not going to name the store or the grower because that's not what I'm trying to do here. I know growing isn't always perfect and things can happen. Plants can throw nanners, stress can cause problems, environmental conditions can contribute, and sometimes pollination happens before you even realize there's an issue. I've had plants surprise me in the garden too. I understand that.
But there's a big difference between finding a couple of seeds in your flower and finding 122 of them in a single ounce. At that point, I think it's fair to start asking questions about what happened during that grow and how that batch made it all the way to the consumer.
As a grower, I'd be pretty disappointed if I pulled down a plant and found that much seed production. Not only does the consumer end up with heavily seeded flower, but the plant has also put a huge amount of energy into making seeds instead of producing the flower we actually wanted.
So I'm curious what everyone thinks. If you bought an ounce and found 122 seeds in it, would you consider that acceptable? Should growers be required to disclose when a batch has a significant amount of seeds? Or is it just part of the risk when buying flower?
Growers especially, I'd like to hear your thoughts. What do you think could cause a plant to produce THIS many seeds?
Would you trust the seeds are what the bag says?
