Congratulations and best wishes on the retirement of Myrtle Beach Director of Capital Projects, Jay Hood!

Jay worked for the City of Myrtle Beach for a total of 23 years. Originally starting in the Engineering Office in 1975, Jay spent 13 years on city staff before moving to a private local corporation. He returned to the City of Myrtle Beach in 2015. Jay played an integral role in many city projects throughout the years in Myrtle Beach. His work includes the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk and Promenade refurbishment, new performing arts theater, The Market Common parking decks, the Warren S. Gall Police Annex reconstruction and the construction of the new Fire Station No. 3.

Jay worked closely with many city departments to bring improvement plans to life. His most recent and special project was the opening of the new Fire Station No. 3, the first new fire station built in 20 years. Jay noted that he learned a lot during that project due to the needs of the firefighters who “live” at the station for 24-hour increments. The new building is purpose-built to be a firehouse, where the former building was part of the old Myrtle Beach Air Force Base.

Jay says he “enjoyed his time working for the City of Myrtle Beach, created lasting ties with fellow employees and was grateful for his role in city improvements.”

Thank you, Jay, for your commitment to city improvements and projects. Enjoy your well-deserved retirement. You will be missed!
