Nashville, TN — DJ Preston Lee is an anomaly. He's an award winning rapper, radio host and mobile DJ from Nashville with a degree in communications from Brigham Young University-Idaho. He completed his first radio internship for a group of stations in Idaho. As an intern he connected with the right people and found a niche for himself as a parody news/entertainment rapper. The country station pick

ed up five of his songs and played them during the morning show throughout his time as an intern. His passion for radio landed him another internship in a larger market at KSL in Salt Lake City. The Nightside Project played his song “Mitt Romney” giving him a chance to be heard on a much larger scale. Preston took a job as the weekend DJ on Z103, East Idaho's largest top 40 station and worked his way onto middays. He progressed as far as he could in the company and took a full time position as the afternoon personality for Star 98, a Hot AC station in the same town. After being promoted to the program director position and becoming a household name in East Idaho, he set his sights on a larger market...Boise. Impact Radio Group (now Iliad Media) learned about his talents and hired him as their midday radio host on Wild 101 and later promoted him to be their digital director in addition to his regular on-air shift. His voice and graphic design work has been heard and seen by tens of thousands of people throughout the Treasure Valley on the radio and on billboards. He continues to reinvent himself and is launching into a new phase of his career as a mobile DJ entertaining at weddings, corporate events and private parties all over the Northwest.

This post is inspired by the Amazon warehouse manager who almost got me fired for wearing my hood inside the building. It was against the rules to wear headphones inside and he assumed I was hiding something because my hood was up. I was not.

I worked in the truck yard and it had been pouring rain all day. I was off the clock and on my way to my car so I had my coat on and hood up.

He got in my face and commanded me to take my hood off. I had seen way too many managers abusing their positions and this day decided to take a stand. I said, “no.”

He got louder, closer to my face and more aggressive with his gestures. After following me all the way through the building, he filed a report and asked for me to be fired for insubordination.

Thankfully my manager listened and asked his managers to just give me a formal warning.

Situations like this gave me the fuel to start my business and never look back.

Now people pay me a lot of money to keep those headphones on! 😂

This has got to be the most interesting place I’ve ever DJed. It was a destination wedding at the base of the Sawtooth Mountains in a settlement called Atlanta, ID. (I wouldn’t even call it a “town” it was so small).

I drove two hours into the mountains, then another 20 miles at about 15 mph on a dirt road to get to Lazy H Ranch. We were so deep in the woods there was a bear cub scavenging around the ranch where I was performing.

Small wedding, less than 50 people. They all flew in from Kentucky. Super friendly and inviting.

There were no other places to stay in the area so I actually slept in one of the rooms of the same ranch the guests were staying at. A little southern hospitality in the northwest.

One of those once in a lifetime type of weddings!

Is it rude when DJs ignore people to finish their song transitions to make sure the entire party doesn’t have dead air?

The ending of this video is honestly the best part. Tip #3 is easily the most powerful 😉 (Watch till the end to see what I mean!)

Three Tips for a Successful Choreographed Wedding Dance

1. Communicate with your DJ & other vendors. They can help you look like a seasoned pro.

2. Pick a song with a long intro.

3. Don’t plan any moves during the intro. Use that time to get the the center of the dance floor, take a deep breath and get ready.
