Women of Strength Photo Project

Women of Strength Photo Project Women of Strength is a 2018 photography project focused on women who have made a positive impact in their communities and with their careers. Stay tuned.

Women of Strength Photo Project About This Project The “Women of Strength” Photography Project came to life in 2015 after a single portrait was made of a young, professional woman from Manchester, New Hampshire. Her story was inspiring. It would start in Africa in 1990, and take her and her family from Sudan to the United States to seek a better life. She is a fighter and continues to make a difference today. The vision is to photograph and interview 12 women in the Merrimack Valley of Massachusetts and north into southern New Hampshire, who have, in their personal or professional lives, achieved something extraordinary, greater than themselves, given back to the community, and who have improved and paved the way for other women in all walks of life and professions. The goal is to combine interview quotes with large, framed, black and white environmental portraits for a traveling show. The shows will be hosted by and at organizations represented by both men and women, women’s organizations, women-run businesses, public libraries, art galleries, and larger venues at university and corporate settings. Both phase 1 and 2 will produce six images each, with separate funding events for each phase. There is a follow-up project planned to fund a coffee table book of the photographs from this first project and include additional images, and full interviews with the women. The initial project (in two phases) is to produce 12 images and personal stories over the next 12 months for show openings and public discussions planned for 2018. Mission The purpose of the project is to highlight these women, tell their stories, and create discussions from the photographic images and text, which aims to inspire women of all ages to become leaders in their own lives. With the show traveling to women-focused and other organizations, the show may be used as a fundraising activity by showing the artwork and sharing the women's stories. About The Creative Team Scot Langdon is a photojournalist and commercial photographer with 30 years of experience. Scot began his career in the news industry, working for community and regional metro daily newspapers covering features, news, politics, sports, and spot news stories. Currently he enjoys working with individuals, companies, non-profit organizations, and publications to communicate their image and stories through his photographs. His passion is capturing the personality of his subjects in their natural surroundings. Scot’s work can be found at www.longhillphoto.com . Lisa J. Jackson is an independent writer and editor who enjoys working with individuals, organizations, and businesses to help them tell their stories. With an MBA, and an MA in writing, Lisa has written individual and business profiles for community newspapers, regional magazines, non-profit and university blogs, and industry success stories, case studies, white papers, and more. Her tagline is, “your words, only better.” Lisa’s can found at https://www.linkedin.com/in/lisajjackson . Our Plan of Action We are fundraising in a two-phased approach in order that we establish a credible track record for phase 2. Phase 1 is to raise enough money to provide for 6 of the 12 framed images and written biographies. Once we have funding to show off one of the 6 images, we will use that to demonstrate the success for more funding from public, private and corporate donors. Funding This project is not considered a non-profit venture, but will require private and public funding to be accomplished. We are in the process of completing a budget and seeking funding sources through sponsors, corporate donations, starting with a Kickstarter campaign in January. Hey, Women of Strength fans - can you help recommend a venue for me to hold a showing of the WoS collection of portraits? Can be more than one location, in NH or MA. Thanks for the input post here.

Hello fans of Women of Strength Photo Project: For those of you who are not familiar with our mission, let me explain.
The project highlights women of strength through a series of black and white portraits that will be on display once completed. I have commitments from a number of venues to show the work, including St Mary's Bank and Manchester Community College. With the bank's help, we have set up a donation account to fund the project, and is overseen by bank management. Donations are anonymous and may be mailed in or deposited at any branch. The account name is under "Women of Strength Photo Project Donations". Please contact me for more information. Share this with your Friends. Thanks.

Funding update: I continue to photograph women for this important project, but still seeking a non profit fiscal agent org with a focus on women, to accept committed donations that will pay for the large prints, matting and framing. Please get back to me if you can recommend an organization with experience in this area. Thanks

FUNDING UPDATES - Hello Friends! We are very slowly making progress toward our fundraising goal, but I'm afraid we are not on target to meet our goal by the April 7th deadline. In the event that we miss the goal and not receive any funding through the all or nothing Kickstarter campaign, and current donors will not transact, do we have donors out there who will fund us directly through paypal? We are happy to provide the same level of gift rewards for your contribution and may be scaling back the size of the framed images and quantity for the show, likely limit it to those who we have photographed to date. Please email me - do not post here, for your comments, concerns, questions. Thanks Scot [email protected]
