Animal rescue isn’t about skillset—it’s about mindset. My perspective is that what unites animal rescuers isn’t our technical skills, but rather our deep ethos of stubborn hope.
Rescuers not only believe in the animals, but we believe in ourselves, sometimes against great odds. We believe that even if we don’t know what we’re doing, we can take the steps to learn. We believe that even if we have no complete plan, we can take the steps to figure one out. We take the leap and trust that our feet will follow. And in doing so, we find that we really can be heroes. We really can save lives.
If you’re wanting to get involved in kitten fostering but you don’t have the skills yet, know this: the skills will come. If you have the mindset to want to help, you’re already halfway there. Take the leap and trust your feet to follow. This is the time of year when so many kittens need someone, and you can be that someone.
And if you want to learn skills, I’ve got you covered. Visit my website KittenLady.org which is filled with articles, videos, webinars, charts, books, audiobooks, printable resources, and other educational tools to help you learn.
Photo is from my talk at Los Angeles Public Library last weekend. What a great time we had! My next stop is SEATTLE this weekend with Seattle Humane, and I can’t wait to see some of you there. Register at KittenLady.org/events 🖤
