Here are some of my favorite instructional books that I used through my years as a dance educator.

1. Teaching the Three Rs (I think this is out of print unfortunately. Purchased on amaZon in 2013 I think lol 🤣)

2. Dance About Anything ( Purchased from National Dance Education Organization - NDEO website. See if it's still available there)

3. Drama- Based Pedagogy (This was gifted to me by the Tennessee Arts Academy BUT it's on Amazon)

4. Writing About Dance ( I believe I purchased from Amazon or National Dance Education Organization - NDEO conference)

This photo gives me all the feels. 🖤

Juneteenth 2024 with my team at our summer school program — and I still carry this memory with me.

We laughed. We danced. We learned. We celebrated Black joy, liberation, and culture — unapologetically, inside a school building, with our students watching.

This is what alignment looks like. Finding a school or organization whose values don't just tolerate who you are — they celebrate it.

I didn't just work here. I BELONGED here.

I was so proud to be part of a team that understood that education and Black culture aren't separate conversations. They never were.

If you're a creative educator, an arts educator, a Black educator — please don't settle for spaces that dim your light. The right community exists. This was mine. 🖤

Juneteenth is a literacy story.

And as a Black woman who has spent her career at the intersection of literacy and creative education, this day means something specific and deep to me.

Reading was resistance.
Language was liberation.
The people who came before us understood that at a level most of us will never have to.

We carry that forward every time we give a child the language to name what they know and express what they feel.

Happy Juneteenth to every creative educator who understands the weight and the beauty of this work. 🖤

I spent 15 years in education, first as a teacher, now as a founder. And the same pattern followed me into both.

The moment things slowed down, my brain kept reaching for the next thing. Because I trained myself to stay in motion for so long that stillness felt like falling behind.

This summer I actually sat in it.
Orange juice on the patio.
No notebook. No plan.

It felt weird at first.
Uncomfortable even.

But then something shifted. I found the version of me that existed before any role I was playing. And I realized I hadn't checked in with her in a long time.

That pattern doesn't just belong to teachers or founders. It belongs to anyone who pours into work they love and forgets to pour back into themselves.

Whether your summer is an exhale or a lane shift, she deserves a visit.
