The Southern Gospel Music Association (SGMA) was founded on March 8, 1994, as a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving, protecting, and promoting the heritage of Southern Gospel music. It established the SGMA Hall of Fame and Museum, originally located at Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, to honor legendary artists, songwriters, and industry leaders.
Today, the SGMA continues its mission through historical preservation, education, and recognition of influential figures in Southern Gospel. The Hall of Fame inducts new members annually, celebrating those who have shaped the genre. The organization also works to archive and protect classic recordings, memorabilia, and stories that define Southern Gospel’s legacy. Through events, partnerships, and outreach, the SGMA ensures that the rich traditions of quartet-style gospel music remain alive for future generations.
