I believe thereā€™s still a bit of uh, concern, about my sisterā€™s shirt. though my friends and .sew.creative are acting like Iā€™m throwing a fashion show with no fashionsā€¦

I mailed the shirt a WEEK ago! Itā€™s been sitting in Richmond until it feels the time is right to continue on its journey.

Generative ai is NOT like spell-check

Generative ai is aggressively unregulated. It is numerically (see the gold rush of ai patterns) taking over spaces that many of us call home.


GEBERATIVE ai ANTIBLACKESS IS MY LEAST FAVORITE FORM OF ANTIBLACKNESS.

Real Black creators face real challenges. ai scammers are counting on MY AWARENESS of that for their own aims. Even as a Black doctor portal is being sued by a white doctor.

Fake Black accounts generate millions of real likes and real dollars. Donā€™t give them yours.

WHO SAID THAT?

Whatā€™s the most number of pattern pieces youā€™ve sewn?

me: 32 pieces for a 3 year oldā€™s shirt

About 16 years ago, I subscribed to OTTOBRE patterns, a European childrenā€™s pattern magazine that did their pattern pieces like old-school Burda multicolored ā€œtossed spaghettiā€ style. They had very fashion forward designs including a shirt for a pre-schooler with 32 pieces.

THIRTY TWO PIECES!

There were epaulets, sleeve tabs, collar, four pockets two with button flaps, contrast hem bands and buttons placket. FOR A THREE YEAR OLD!!

Since then, I like printing labels to keep track of my pattern pieces as I cut them.

I use labels throughout my sewing practice and the n the studio too. Cutting out a pattern has a lot of steps, especially if some parts need interfacing or lining. I discuss the system on the Sewing With Stickers episode of the Stitch Please podcast.

FINISHING TOUCHES!

The part I needed for my snap press arrived today!

Now I can install the snaps and (maybe) send it to my sister!
