no “hi, i’m rachel and i’m an alcoholic.” just a girlie who got curious about why I was really drinking, which changed my life.
steal my 5 best tips:
1. change the mindset.
stop thinking “i can never drink again” and start asking “do i want a drink right now.” forever is a lie your brain tells you to make this harder than it is. you only have to get through today.
2. replace the ritual, not just the drink.
you’re not craving the alcohol, you’re craving the transition. the “work is over, i can exhale” moment. build a new one. a walk, a bath, a stupid trashy show, a mocktail in a fancy glass. give yourself something new to look forward to!
3. get curious about the hangxiety.
that dread the day after drinking? the constant spiral. notice how it disappears when you don’t drink? your brain starts connecting the dots faster than you think.
4. find your people before you need them.
you don’t need a meeting, but you do need someone who won’t raise an eyebrow when you order a soda water at happy hour. and someone who will keep you accountable. one friend who gets it is enough.
5. let it be boring.
nobody talks about this part. sober curiosity isn’t always a dramatic transformation montage. most days it’s just quiet. neutral. undramatic. that’s the win. that’s the whole point.
you don’t have to hit rock bottom to decide you’re ready for a break. you don’t have to lose yourself to change your relationship with alcohol.
you just have to start.
